The Jr. Coach Pitch played Friday to see which teams would advance to the championship game. The first round was the A Plus Heating and Cooling Flames versus the DeKalb Community Bank Bucks. The Flames torched the Bucks 16-3. and advanced to the next round of the play-offs.
In the top of the first, the Bucks were limited to one hit coming from Gracie Randolph when she dropped in a single to shallow left field.
In the bottom of the first, Emma Johnson led off for the Flames with a homer. Later on in the inning with runners on second and third, Martin Willingham knocked out a triple that allowed Saylors to score. Madison Dawson blasted out a two-run double to centerfield. Isaac Newport stepped up to the plate with a runner on first and slapped out a two-run homerun.
In the top of the second, Noah Colwell had a double but was thrown out after trying to steal third. Jackson Mathis and Addison Hale each had singles.
In the bottom of the second, Emma Johnson again led off for the Flames and again she blasted a ball deep in the outfield good for a inside-the-park homerun. Marquez Chalfant brought in two runs with a double in right field. After Madison Dawson’s triple, Kenlee Taylor brought her home with a single.
In the top of the third, Hunter Cannon lifted the Bucks with a three-run shot to left field good for an inside-the-park homerun. After the homerun the Bucks had three straight strike outs.
In the bottom of the third, Martin Willingham was up to bat with a runner on first and belted out a two-run homer. Marquez Chalfant followed Willingham with a solo homerun of his own. Isaac Newport and Seth Gibbs each brought in a run hitting singles.
In the top of the fourth, the Bucks had their worst inning, going three-and-out, and dropped out of the play-offs.
Across the way on field B, the Hendrix Law Defenders took on the Tenneco Titans. The Titans prevailed and just slipped by the defenders 15-13.
In the top of the first, the Defenders struck hard and struck fast with a two-run, inside-the-park, homerun coming from Jacob Hendrix.
In the bottom of the first, the Titans flew past the Defenders as they scored six runs and took the lead. Ty Webb brought in the first two runs with his double into centerfield. Seth Fuson then blasted out an inside-the-park two-run homerun. Kole Kangus knocked a ball out good for a triple. Then on an errant throw, Kangus stole home. Skylar Savage drove in a run with a single down the third baseline.
In the top of the second, the Defenders closed the gap and tied the score up, tallying four in the inning. Jacob Hendrix slapped out a double that brought in two runs. Keagan Martin hit a line drive that brought in Hendrix to score and reached second base for a double. Zachary Birmingham brought in the last run with a single to right field.
In the bottom of the second, the Titans again took back the lead with a monster inning, this time scoring seven runs. Jordan Blackwell led off with a single. Avery Agee followed with a single. Wesley Kent brought both runners in to score with a double. Ty Webb dropped in a single past the first baseman. Caley Taylor also brought in two runs to score with a double. S. Fuson brought in a run with his triple into right field. Kangus cleared the bases with a two-run homerun.
In the top of the the third inning, the defenders battled back, scoring seven runs of their own to once again close the gap between the two teams.
Jackson Arnold was up with the bases loaded and singled to left field, bringing in a run. Konnor Young also had the bases loaded and did not disappoint as he blasted out a grandslam homerun. Keagan Martin and Trevor Kirby each drove in a run with a pair of singles.
In the bottom of the third, Avery Agee brought in a run with a single to left field. Jack Byford brought in the last run of the inning with a slow roller that got past the second baseman for the RBI single.
In the top of the fourth, the Defenders were down by just two runs, all they needed was a spark of offense. All the Defenders would get would be a heartbreaking three-and-out and the game was ended.
On Saturday afternoon the Jr. Coach Pitch championship game took place at Bill Page Ball Park. The final two teams having one last show-down were The A-Plus Heating and Cooling and the Tenneco Titans. The Flames crushed the Titans 22-10 and walked away the champions of the 2012 season.
In the top of the first, the Flames blasted out four runs early in the inning, led by Martin Willingham with a two-run double into left field.
In the bottom of the first, the Titans matched the Flames’ total, bringing in four runs of their own. Jordan Blackwell was the first runner to score when he came across homeplate after a single from Avery Agee. Later on in the inning Ty Webb slapped out a two-run triple to even the score up.
In the top of the second, the Flames would punish the defense of the Titans and score six runs. M. Willingham knocked a run in with a triple. Marquez Chalfaunt then clobbered the ball for a two-run homerun. Isaac Newport also brought in two runs with a triple into deep right field.
In the bottom of the second, the Flames only allowed two batters to make it on base. Blackwell and Agee each had a single, but were unable to bring any runs in.
In the top of the third, the Flames continued their hot streak and extended their lead by three. Chalfaunt drove in two runs with a double in left field. Kenlee Taylor brought Chalfaunt in to score when she singled to shallow centerfield.
In the bottom of the third, the Titans were limited in scoring opportunities and only scrounged up one run on Seth Fuson’s double.
In the top of the fourth, the runs kept coming for the Flames as they added four more to their tally. All runs came in by way of grandslam from Chalfaunt.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Titans kicked into high gear, having their best inning of the game scoring five runs.
Ty Webb was up to bat with the bases loaded and hauled in two runs off a double into shallow right field. Caley Taylor and Jack Byford each brought in a run with singles. Seth Futon had a sac-fly to first base.
In the top of the fifth, it was evident that the Flames were not going to settle for anything but first place as they drove in five more runs. I. Newport was the high note in the inning when he smacked out a three-run homerun.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Titans could not close the huge gap between them and their opponent and the inning ended with a ground-out back to the pitcher.
The run rule was enforced after the fifth inning, giving the Flames a well-deserved victory for the evening and a championship for the year.
