Football and Soccer Games Under Attendance Restrictions
By Chris Tramel
As the DeKalb County High School Tigers football and soccer seasons, as well as the DMS Saints' seasons, fast approach, the DeKalb County School Board is laying out the TSSAA guidelines that will affect game attendance. The DCHS Football Season is set to kick off at home on Friday, August 21, against Warren County, but officials are warning that there will be a limited number of tickets available for this year's games.
In a press release, DCHS Principal Randy Jennings said, "Due to TSSAA guidelines there will be a limited number of tickets for home games this football season."
"To ensure the families of the players and cheerleaders for both teams are able to watch their children play, we will be distributing ticket stubs that will need to be brought to the ticket gate on game night to purchase a ticket to enter. These stubs will be given to players and cheerleaders to distribute to their family members. Each individual must have one of the specially marked stubs to be able to purchase a game ticket."
Jennings said that ticket stubs will only be available the day before the games. "Once these tickets are distributed, the remaining available tickets will be sold to the community. Tickets will be sold on August 20, [for the Aug. 21 game] starting at 4:00 pm, at the DeKalb County Football ticket gate. There will be a limit of two tickets per individual and will be first come first serve until we reach our attendance capacity."
"There will be no tickets sold on game night other than those that have a specially marked ticket stub. We will not be accepting TSSAA or TACA cards this year due to capacity limits."
Jennings said that everyone will have a temperature check at the gate, and must have a face covering/mask to enter the stadium. "We are very sorry that we are having to restrict the number of fans that attend the games to support our Tigers. We hope everyone that can not attend will follow the Tigers on WJLE radio, or through their livestream with the voice of the Tigers John Pryor."
"I want to thank everyone that has supported and continue to support DeKalb County High School athletics."
School officials have also said that DCHS Tigers soccer, as well as the DMS Saints football and soccer games will also be under the TSSAA restrictions, though attendance will be regulated at the gate the day of the games, rather than obtaining tickets the day before. Fans will also have to undergo temperature checks and wear masks to attend.
