Grant James signs to play golf for Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion golf team added its first player for the 2011-12 season with the recent signing of Grant James of Smithville.James transfers from the University of Tennessee, where he spent last year as a student manager for the men's basketball team. He enters Freed-Hardeman as a freshman this fall.Freed-Hardeman recently reinstated its golf programs after discontinuing them in 2005.The men's program competed in the spring of 2011 and the women's program will begin competing in the fall of 2011.James prepped at DeKalb Co. High School, where he was part of a highly successful program that won three district and two regional championships in three years, and finished third in the state tournament in 2007 and 2008.Individually, James placed in the top 10 in both the district and regional tournaments during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and placed 28th in the state tournament as a senior.He also excelled in the classroom, ranking third in his graduating class, and was a member of the student council, Beta Club, French Club and Future Business Leaders of America."We're excited to have Grant joining our program," said head coach John Armstrong.
