The DeKalb West School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs basketball teams faced some tough opponents last week, both at home and on the road.

On Tuesday, January 5, DWS was at home, taking on Defeated in what would turn out as a rough night for the hometown crowd.

In the Lady Bulldogs' game, DWS scored four points in the first quarter off of a pair of two-pointers by Emily Young. Defeated came away with eight points, giving them a lead they would never relinquish.

The Lady Bulldogs scored another four points in the second quarter, with two-point shots by Jordyn Tuberville and Hannah Brown. Defeated scored 11 points, taking a 19-8 halftime lead.

Once again, DWS scored four points in the third quarter. Young had a two-point shot, while Caroline Crook had a couple of free throw points. Defeated added to their lead, scoring eight points, and going up, 27-12.

Bryna Pelham scored the only points for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, getting a two-point basket. Defeated padded the scoreboard with 12 points, taking the 39-14 win.

The Bulldogs' luck would not be any better. Conner Talley scored the only points for DWS in the first quarter with a two-point basket. Defeated put up nine points, taking the early lead.

Once again, DWS only came away with two points in the second quarter, with a two-pointer by Wesley Kent. Defeated piled on 14 points, taking the 23-4 halftime lead.

Chase Young sank a two-point basket for the Bulldogs in the third quarter, again marking the only points for DWS. Defeated added 12 more, giving them a 35-6 lead.

The Bulldogs scored five points in the fourth quarter, with Ben Barton getting a two-point shot, Chase Young a pair of free throw points, and Ben Driver with one free throw. Defeated scored only one point, but it was more than enough. Defeated took the 36-11 victory.

On Thursday, January 7, DeKalb West was on the road, facing off with Wilson Elementary.

In the girls' game, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. Jordyn Agee had a pair of two-point baskets, while Pelham, Young, and Lauren Fry each had one. Wilson was held to six points, giving DWS the early lead.

The Lady Bulldogs only scored one point in the second quarter, with McKenna Miller getting a free throw. But, Wilson was shut out in the second quarter, giving DWS the 11-6 lead at halftime.

Things got interesting in the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs only scored two points, with a two-point shot by Miller, but Wilson came out on fire, scoring eight points. Wilson took a one-point lead, 14-13.

DWS scored seven points in the fourth quarter, with Young and Abby Crook each getting a two-point basket, while Agee scored a pair of free throws, and Pelham scored one. Wilson scored six points, tying the game, 20-20, and sending it to overtime.

It all came down to free throws in OT. Pelham, Young, and Fry all had chances, but came up empty at the line, but Caroline Crook had six chances and sank four. Wilson was held scoreless, giving the Lady Bulldogs the 24-20 overtime win.

The boys' game would not be so fortunate. The game stayed close in the first half, with the Bulldogs scoring eight points in the first quarter. Chase Young had a pair of two-point baskets, while Grant Buterbaugh had a two-pointer and a pair of free throws. Wilson came away with 10 points, taking the lead.

The Bulldogs scored another eight points in the second quarter, with Barton getting a couple of two-point shots, while Kenson Moss and Ethan Brown each had one. Wilson scored 12, giving them a 22-16 halftime lead.

While the game seemed manageable for the Bulldogs in the first half, everything fell apart in the second half. DWS was shut out in the third quarter, while Wilson added 23 to the board.

The Bulldogs were again shut out in the fourth quarter, while Wilson put up seven more points, taking the 52-16 win.
