The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints had a tough week, with a loss at home and another at a road game.
On Nov. 17, the Lady Saints were on their home court where they faced Cornerstone Middle School of Baxter. DMS fell behind early and just could not find the basket all night.
The Lady Saints scored five points in the first period, including a three-pointer by Joni Robinson. Cornerstone came away with nine points and the lead.
Things were even worse in the second period, with the only two points for DMS coming from free throws. Cornerstone added six more points to the scoreboard, taking a 15-7 lead at halftime.
Julia Curtis scored the only two points of the third period for the Lady Saints, while Cornerstone put up another six points. Baxter was up, 21-9.
The Lady Saints finally found the hoop in the fourth with nine points, including two-point baskets by Madison Parsley, Curtis, and Abby Taylor. It wouldn’t be enough however, with Cornerstone getting eight points and taking the 30-18 victory.
Curtis was three for six on free throws, while Parsley and Robinson were each two for two. Macy Hedge was zero for two.
On Nov. 20, the Lady Saints were on the road, this time taking on a powerful team from Warren County.
Warren County came out with the lead in the first period, taking 11 points to DeKalb’s four. Curtis scored the only points, with a pair of two-point shots.
Curtis had another couple of two-pointers in the second period, while Parsley had a two-pointer of her own. DMS scored eight, while Warren had 10, taking a 21-12 lead at the half.
The only three points of the third period for the Lady Saints came from free throws, while Warren put the hammer down with seven two-pointers and three three-pointers. Warren scored 24 points and increased their lead to 44-15.
The Lady Saints found the basket in the fourth period, getting 17 points. Robinson and Hedge each had a two and three-point basket, while Curtis and Taylor each had a two-pointer. Warren had 11 points, and the 56-32 win.
Curtis went four for six on free throws, while Lera Britt was two for five. Parsley was two for two.
