The DeKalb Middle School Saints played two games last week, one a regularly scheduled match and another a makeup game.
On Dec. 11, the Saints were on their home court taking on a team from Prescott Middle School in Putnam County. It would be a tough game for the Saints.
DMS started the first period slow. Brayden Hart scored the team’s only two points, and two-point basket. Prescott came away with eight points and the lead.
The Saints got things together in the second period, getting 14 points. Nathan Atkins and Michael Elswick each had a pair of two-point shots, while Logan Cornelius and Noah Gill each had one. Hart added two points with two free throw points. Prescott had nine points, keeping a narrow lead at the half, 17-16.
DMS scored another nine points in the third period, with Hart getting two two-point baskets. Colter Norris had a two-pointer and a free throw, while Cornelius and Atkins each had a point from free throws. Prescott added 15 points, extending their lead, 32-25.
The Saints scored five in the fourth period, with Hart and Elswick each getting a two-pointer. Cornelius added a point with a free throw shot. Prescott got nine points and the 41-30 win.
Cornelius and Hart were each two for four on free throws, while Norris was one for three. Atkins was one for two, while Gill and Elswick were each zero for two.
On Dec. 13, the Saints took on a team from Rickman in a makeup match rescheduled from Nov. 18. Again, it would be tough going for the Saints.
DMS scored six points in the first period, with a three-pointer by Norris and a two-pointer by Hart. Atkins scored a point off of a free throw. Rickman scored eight points, taking a narrow lead.
The Saints scored eight in the second period, with Norris getting a pair of two-pointers, and Cornelius getting one. Hart added two points off of free throws. Rickman came away with 14 points, taking a 22-14 lead at the half.
Atkins scored a three-pointer, and Gill had a point from a free throw for DMS’s four points in the third. Rickman added eight more points to their tally, taking a 30-18 lead.
The Saints had six in the fourth, with Hart and Eli Cantrell each getting a two-point basket, and Gill getting two from free throws. Rickman sealed their win with 13 points, ending the game at 43-24.
Gill was three for four on free throws, while Hart was two for two. Atkins was one for two, Andrew Fuson zero for two, and Cantrell zero for one.
