It's Basketball time!

It’s basketball time in DeKalb County as the 2019-20 Tigers and Lady Tigers start their campaigns Tuesday night as they head up the mountain to Van Buren County before launching their home season when they play host to Pickett County Saturday evening.

For the Lady Tigers it will be a return to the court after a dream season that saw them fall two games short of claiming a state title. The Lady Tigers finished last season at 23-12 and were finally stopped in the opening game of the state finals, falling 34-31 to Marshall County. They weaved their way eight games through the playoff schedule, notching impressive wins over Crossville and Upperman in the regionals and McMinn Central in the sectional before getting the state berth.

The coming season appears to be shaping up much as last year as the Lady Tigers look to be loaded again. However, Upperman and Macon County also are returning key players, making the district one of the strongest in the state from top to bottom.

For the Tigers, the highlight of the season was an upset win over Cannon County in the district tourney at Tennessee Tech last year. They finished with a 6-23 record and were ushered from the playoffs by Upperman. They look to improve on their 4-10 district record as Coach John Sanders begins his second year at the helm.
