The DCHS Tiger baseball team took the Cannon County Lions down 6-1, while senior pitcher Steven Jennings led the Tigers to victory with another no-hit ballgame in the first game of a Tuesday double header.
The Tigers took the lead early, scoring an unanswered run in the first inning, two in the second, another in the third and two more in the fourth. Cannon managed only one run on errors, in the seventh inning. Jennings hurled for eight strikeouts, and gave up one walk.
DeKalb scored six runs on eight hits, committing two errors.
Colter Norris hit a single and a double, Lee Randolph hit two singles and John Maynard belted a triple. Paxton Butler Brady Hughes and Grayson Redmon all hit singles.
DeKalb won the second game by a closer 5-3 margin.
The Lions outscored the Tigers 2-1 in the first, but DeKalb went ahead with two runs in the second to take the lead, which they held for the remainder of the contest.
County Tigers Varsity and Cannon County played a taut affair on Tuesday, but DeKalb County Tigers Varsity eventually prevailed 5-3 after taking the lead for good in the second inning. The game was tied at two with DeKalb County Tigers Varsity batting in the top of the second when Paxton Butler singled off of #10, driving in one run.
Both teams put a run across in the fourth, and DeKalb added another in the fifth to seal the deal. The Tigers scored five runs on six hits, committing no errors in the game.
Lee Randolph hit a single, a double and got an RBI, while Paxton Butler hit two singles, batting in two runs. Colter Norris doubled, and Grayson Redmon rounded out the DeKalb offensive effort with a single.
The Tigers, now 9-3-1 on the season, will travel to Gordonsville on April 6, will return home to host Lancaster Christian Academy on April 7, and will play two against Livingston Academy, in Smithville on April 10, and in Livingston on April 11.
