After taking a week off for Thanksgiving, the DeKalb West School Lady Bulldogs were back on their home court last Monday evening taking on the Lady Bears of Short Mountain. The game would start as a low-scoring sleeper until the final minutes, ending with a thriller in overtime.
DWS only scored two points in the first period, with a two-point basket by Shelby Clayborn. The Lady Bears didn’t do much better, scoring only three, but taking the lead.
The second period was nearly a repeat of the first. The Lady Bulldogs could only muster two points, with a two-point basket by Kendra Whitehead. Again, Short Mountain added three points, taking a 6-4 lead at halftime.
Lydia Brown would get all five points for the Lady Bulldogs in the third period, getting a pair of two-point baskets and a free throw shot. The Lady Bears matched DWS’s points, getting five of their own, keeping an 11-9 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs only got five points in the fourth period, but held Short Mountain to only three, tying the game. Addison Oakley came away with a two-pointer and a free throw, while Ally Beth Cook made a couple of free throw shots. The game was all knotted up, 14 all.
In overtime, Brown scored the only two-point shot for the Lady Bulldogs. Short Mountain came away with a three-pointer, taking a 17-16 win.
Oakley went one for nine on free throws, while Cook was two for four. Brown was one for two.
