The DeKalb West Lady Bulldogs hosted Tucker’s Crossroads on Jan. 14, losing a close contest in a 19-11 game.
While DWS outscored Tucker’s 6-2 in the first period, TC scored five points and the Lady ‘Dogs put in four. DeKalb took a 10-7 lead into halftime.
The third period saw Tucker’s score 4 points, holding DWS to only one, a free throw from Kendra Whitehead. The score was tied at 11 at the beginning of the final period.
Tucker’s Crossroads broke things loose in the fourth, however, ripping out 11 points and leaving DWS scoreless to take the win.
Lydia Davenport and Emma Damron led the Lady Bulldogs offense with four points each, and Davenport went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Gracie Griffin put in two points for DWS, while Whitehead added one.
Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs lost a 16-15 heartbreaker to Gordonville Middle School on Jan. 8.
The Saints led a 3-2 first period, but GMS shut them out in a 7-0 second. Gordonsville led 9-3 at the half.
DWS snapped back in the third, outscoring GMS 8-2, and tying the score 11-11 at the beginning of the final period. Gordonsville outlasted DeKalb in a 5-4 fourth, and took the win.
Griffin topped the DWS offense with eight points, all on two-pointers. Damron, Summer Crook and Aniston Farler added two points each, and Lydia Davenport put one point on the board for DWS.
The DWS game against Woodbury, both the final season game and eighth-grade night, was snowed out on Jan. 19, and has been rescheduled for tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. at DeKalb West.
