The DeKalb West School Lady Bulldogs took on a couple of teams last week, losing on the road, then getting a narrow victory on their home court.
On Nov. 17, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Woodbury, where they faced off with a tough team. Woodbury took the early lead in the first period, and never looked back.
The Lady Bulldogs scored eight points in the first period, while Woodbury came away with 12. Lydia Brown had a couple of two-point baskets, while Addison Oakley and Ashley Reynolds each had one of their own.
Brown scored the only points for DWS in the second period, taking a pair of two-point baskets. Woodbury increased their lead with nine more points, taking a 21-12 lead at halftime.
The third period was a repeat on the second for the Lady Bulldogs. Brown score two more two-point baskets, the only points of the period. Woodbury tacked on 12 more points, increasing their lead to 33-16.
DWS could not find the hoop in the fourth period, while Woodbury added two more complimentary points, taking a 35-16 win.
Reynolds was zero for one on free throws.
The following day, the Lady Bulldogs were at home, this time taking on a team from Auburntown.
Brown opened up the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring a pair of two-point baskets for four of the team’s five points in the first period. Auburntown stayed close with three points.
It was Brown again in the second period. The team scored 11 points, with Brown taking four two-pointers, and Shelby Clayborn getting one. Auburntown had only two points, giving DWS a 16-5 lead at halftime.
Auburntown was not going to simply go away, and in the third period the game began to get interesting. Auburntown scored 12 points, while DWS had eight. Addison Oakley scored three two-pointers for the Lady Bulldogs, while Brown had one. DWS still had the lead, 24-17.
The Lady Bulldogs only scored six points in the fourth period, including two-pointers by Oakley and Brown, while Auburntown roared back to make DWS fans nervous. Auburntown scored 11, coming up two points short. The Lady Bulldogs took the 30-28 win.
Oakley went two for two on free throws, while Brown was two for seven. Alaysia Christian was zero for one.
