It was another tough week for the Lady Bulldogs, with one loss at home and another on the road.
On Dec. 8, the Lady Bulldogs were at home, taking on the Gordonsville Tigerettes. The Lady Bulldogs started out slow, not getting going until the second half.
DWS only scored two points in the first period, with two free throw points by Addison Oakley. Gordonsville didn’t do much better, taking only four points.
The Lady Bulldogs only scored two in the second period, with a two-pointer by Oakley. Smith started to roll, getting 13 points and increasing their lead 17-4 at halftime.
Oakley had three free throw points in the third period, while Lydia Brown got a pair of two-point baskets. DWS score seven, but Smith came away with eight, increasing the lead, 25-11.
DeKalb West scored six in the fourth, with a two-pointer by Brown and Oakley with two points on free throws and a two-pointer of her own. Smith only scored three, but it was more than enough. Smith took the win, 28-17.
Oakley was seven for 10 on free throws.
On Dec. 11, the Lady Bulldogs were on the road taking on Smith County Middle. The game saw DeKalb West have trouble finding the hoop.
DWS scored four points in the first period, all from two two-point shots by Lydia Brown. Smith jumped out with 12 points and a huge lead.
Brown scored the Lady Bulldogs’ one and only point of the second period, coming from a free throw. Smith continued to pile on the scoreboard, taking 11 more points and a 23-5 lead at the half.
It was Brown again in the third period, scoring a two-pointer and the only points for DeKalb West. Smith County added six more, increasing their lead, 29-7.
Harley Sloan had the only two-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth period, while Smith put up eight points. Smith took the 37-9 victory.
Brown went one for two on free throws, while Gracie Griffin and Emma Damron each went zero for two.
