The West Lady Bulldogs clawed back this past week against Southside, erasing a fourth quarter deficit to force overtime and claim a hard-fought 38-37 win.

The deficit was nine as the Lady Bulldogs started the fourth quarter, down 29-20 as they inbounded the ball for the final stanza. They had actually reeled in Southside a bit in the third as they were down 20-10 at the half. The fourth saw an offensive explosion for West while Southside’s offense went to sleep, mustering just three points. Alyssa Crook outscored Southside single handed in the fourth as she led her team with four points in the fourth on her way to 14 points on the night. Tess Barton also had four in the fourth, two of those coming from the free throw line. She led her team with 16 points in the tilt.

The frenzied comeback forced overtime. It was there that Ella Hendrixson hit two big free throws, joined by Caroline Crook who also hit a pair from the charity stripe. Another two from Alyssa Crook was enough to put the West girls over the top.

The boys weren’t able to duplicate the Lady Bulldogs opening to the night as they fell to Southside 32-28. Alex Antoniak led the charge for West with 10 points on the night joined by Brayden Carter and Wesley McCowan with five apiece.

West fell after digging an early hole as they were down 14-7 after one. While chipping away at the Southside lead, they were only able to get it to four by the end.
