Lady Dragons down the Lady Tigers

The Lady Tigers hosted a district match-up on Tuesday night taking on the York Institute Lady Dragons. The Lady Tigers were unsuccessful in their attempt to slay the Lady Dragons, falling just short to a 51-48 loss.
In the first quarter, the Lady Dragons took to an early lead outscoring the Lady Tigers 9-6. Danielle Tyson would have the first basket for the Lady Tigers. Shortly after Chelsea Lewis would led the charge and score four straight points to end the first period of play.
In the second quarter, Alex Meadows started things off for DeKalb  as she nailed a three-point basket to pull even with the Lady Dragons.
 Just a short time after Meadows’ three-pointer, Chelsea Lewis added a three-pointer of her own to give the Lady Tigers their first lead of the game with 6:18 still remaining in the first half.
York would battle back and regain the lead and hold off the Lady Tigers, outscoring them 13-11. Lady Tiger Alex Meadows led the team this period with  five.
In the third quarter, Meadows had a monster quarter, tossing in 10 of DeKalb’s 12 points in the period while Loren Cripps  scored the other two points.
Yet Meadows double-digit efforts in the points column were still not enough to hold York at bay as they again outscored the Lady Tigers 12-16.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers finally managed to outscore the Lady Dragons 19-13. Chelsea Lewis dropped eight fourth-quarter points, only to ultimately fall to defeat as the Lady Tigers lost by three points.






With this loss the Lady Tigers fall to 1-9 in their district. With only two district games left on the season, the Lady Tigers are hopeful to make a late run and win out the rest of district play.
The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Alex Meadows with 18. Chelsea Lewis followed closely behind with 17. Loren Cripps tossed in six while Danielle Tyson added four.  Abbey Caldwell scored three and Ashley Barnes scored two.
On Friday night the Lady Tigers traveled to Murfreesboro and took on the Central Magnet Tigers. The Lady Tigers of DeKalb proved to be the better Tiger as they slipped past Central Magnet with a slim victory, 37-35.
In the first quarter, DeKalb County struck first with a basket from Danielle Tyson at the six-minute mark. Offensive production proved to be difficult to come by as DeKalb only managed four points in the first period of play while their defense did hold Central Magnet to just a single basket.
In the second quarter, with DeKalb still struggling to find any sort of rhythm offensively, scoring only four points all by which came from Chelsea Lewis.
 Central Magnet seemed to have no trouble this time, scoring  eight and taking the lead going into the half.
In the third quarter,  both teams went basket for basket, each  tallying nine points. DeKalb still trailed by two points.
Chelsea Lewis led the Lady Tigers with five points  to end the period.
In the fourth quarter, Chelsea Lewis started where she left off in the previous period  dropping in a three-pointer  to pull within three points of Central Magnet.
With 5:57 left in the game Loren Cripps scored a triple to tie the game at 23. Only a few seconds after giving DeKalb their first lead since the first quarter, Loren Cripps came back to drop in another three-pointer to take the lead.
From there Central Magnet went on a 5-0 run with only 3:21 remaining to play. Later on a basket from Alex Meadows would pull them within three points with three minutes still to play. Chelsea Lewis showed poise as she knocked down a three-pointer with just a minute left in the game to tie it back up. With 40 seconds left in the game Ashley Barnes would give DeKalb the final lead they would hang onto throughout the rest of the game and win.
This win marks the second district win for the Lady Tigers’ which improves their standings to 2-9 in district play.
