The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints took a win in the first round of the James C. Haile State Tournament Saturday, taking the West Middle School Lady Bobcats from Tullahoma down 32-23.
The Lady Saints led West Middle 8-0 at the end of the first period of play, and while DMS was outscored 7-6 in the second, they held on to a 14-7 lead at the half. The DMS lead was expanded to 27-13 after a 13-6 third period went their way, and the Lady Saints went on to win the game 32-23.
Kadee Ferrell topped the DMS scorecard with 13 points in the contest, going 4-for-3 from the foul line. Megan Cantrell scored eight points, while Kennedy Agee put seven in. Mallori Hart added four points to the Lady Saints tally.
The ladies from DMS will face White County Tuesday night in the second round of competition, and they hope to go on to face the winner of a Monday night Upperman-Macon County game in the semi-finals at Middle Tennessee Christian School in Murfreesboro Saturday at 6 p.m.
