Lady Saints blast Cannon
Lady Saints
DeKalb Middle School Lady Saint Coach Josh Agee draws up a play during one of his team’s games during their 13-4 regular season. The team will begin post-season play this Friday night in Murfreesboro

The DeKalb Middle School Saints finished their regular season this past week, blasting Cannon County 34-30 as they head into post-season play this weekend.

Cadee Griffith set the tone early against the Lady Lions, nailing five of her team-high 11 in the opening frame as the Lady Saints got off to a 13-10 lead. Their advantage continued into the second as they outscored the Woodbury girls 10-7, six of those coming on a pair of threes by Dare Collins.

Holding a 23-17 lead coming out of the break, DeKalb went on an offensive lull. However, Cannon was unable to take advantage as they could only cut into the Lady Saint lead by a single point as the teams combined for just 11 third quarter points.

The offensive woes continued in the fourth quarter for the Lady Saints as they were only able to put up five points, three of those scored by Griffith. The number was enough for the win as Marlee McNutt of the Lady Lions posted five of her team’s eight in the final frame.

The win ends the Lady Saint regular season at 13-4. They next head to Murfreesboro and the James C. Haile State Tournament at the Middle Tennessee Christian School this Friday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Varsity Gym as they play Walter J. Baird in the first round.
