The DeKalb Middle School Saints and Lady Saints were on the road last Thursday night, traveling to Avery Trace for a couple of game. The girls would come away with a victory, while the boys would fall in a tough one.
In the Lady Saints’ game, Brooke Fuson would get DMS on the board with three two-point baskets in the first period. Avery Trace would stay right with them, scoring six points of their own.
Maggie Hendrixson would sink a three-point basket for the Lady Saints in the second period, while Fuson would get another two-pointer. Once again, Avery Trace kept pace, scoring five points and tying the game at 11 at the half.
Fuson put a two-pointer and a free throw on the board for the Lady Saints in the third, but that would be the only points DMS would see. Avery Trace scored six and took a 17-14 lead.
The Lady Saints got rolling in the fourth period, scoring 11 more points. Hendrixson hit three three-pointers, while Fuson added a pair of free throws. Defensively, DMS stood strong and Avery Trace was held scoreless, giving the Lady Saints the 25-17 victory.
Things would go so well in the boys’ game. The Saints only scored two points in the first period, off of a two-pointer by Kiece Hannah, while Avery Trace came away with 20.
The Saints managed seven points in the second period, with a pair of two-pointers by Hannah and a three-point shot by Hayden Quarles. Avery Trace was held to six points, but held a 24-9 halftime lead.
The Saints put 11 points on the board in the third period, with Hannah sinking three two-pointers, while Quarles had a three-pointer. J.T. Summers also had a two-point basket. Avery Trace padded their lead with 16 points, taking a 40-20 lead.
Cooper Odom would hit on a three-point shot for the Saints in the fourth, while Hannah and Luke Johnson would each have a two-point basket. Avery Trace would tack on 16 more, claiming the 56-27 win.
