The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints played their inaugural game last Friday, traveling to Avery Trace Middle School for the first game of the newly formed DMS soccer program.
While excitement surrounded the newly formed team, their inexperience and youth was apparent with the Lady Saints coming away with a loss, 12-0.
"We let the excitement and nervousness from the first game get to us," Coach Justin Nokes told the Review. "We did do much better the second half. The first half we allowed eight goals, but in the second half we allowed four goals."
Coach Nokes said that while the lopsided score was bad, it could have been worse. Mary Maple, the Lady Saints goalkeeper, had 12 saves during the game.
The Lady Saints played at home last Tuesday against Prescott South Middle School. Their next game will be on the road on Thursday, when they face Cumberland County.
