

The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints softball team played a couple of games last week, losing in a shutout against Warren County, then bouncing back with a shutout of their own.
On Monday, March 22, the Lady Saints faced off against border rival Warren County, where DeKalb would fall behind early and never recover. The Lady Saints struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Warren, giving up eight runs.
In the first inning, Warren got their offense started when Kora Kilgore threw a few wild pitches allowing three runs across the plate.
Warren would score two more runs in the fourth inning, and cap off the game with three runs in the fifth, taking an 8-0 win.
The winning pitcher for Warren lasted five innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out ten. Kilgore took the loss for Lady Saints. The lefthander went five innings, allowing eight runs on three hits and striking out ten.
Warren didn't commit a single error in the field. Roberts had the most chances in the field with seven.
The following day the Lady Saints were at home facing a team from Watertown. The loss the day before didn't seem to effect the home team as they mounted a shutout of their own.
The Lady Saints fired up the offense in the first inning. Annabella Dakas grounded out, but sent Zayleigh Washer home. Then, in the second inning Washer hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by second base, as Katherine Knowles scored.
In the third inning, Bryna Pelham homered on a line drive to center field with Kora Kilgore on base. The Lady Saints were up 4-0.
At the bottom of the fourth, Annabella Dakas doubled on a fly ball to left field, sending Washer home.
In the fifth inning Bryna Pelham doubled on a pop fly to left field, allowing Avery Agee to score, then Pelham scored on passed ball.
The Lady Saints sealed the game in the sixth inning. Dakas hit a pop fly and reached on an error by left field, allowing Washer to score, then Pelham hit a ground ball and reached on an error by shortstop, letting Dakas score. After that, Hannah Brown single on a line drive to right field, sending Adreana Cuevas and Pelham home. DMS took the 11-0 victory.
Kora Kilgore got the win for the Lady Saints. The southpaw went six innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out 18. Pelham led the Lady Saints with three hits in four at bats, while the team didn't commit a single error in the field. Pelham had 15 chances in the field, the most on the team.
