The Lady Saints finished their season last week with two games, one at home against Algood during the Eighth Grade Night celebration, and another on the road against Jackson County.
On Sept. 30, the Lady Saints hosted Eighth Grade Night, recognizing the eighth grade players on the team. Those called to the field with their families were Forward, Jhoany Gaspar; Defense, Mia Godinez; Midfield, Danissa Guzman; Forward, Anissa Hall; Defense, Danya Jackson; Forward, Madison Kemper; and Defense, Nicole Rivera.
After the ceremony, the Lady Saints faced Algood in their final home game of the season. The game was a tough one for the young team, with Algood scoring six goals in the first half.
During the second half, DeKalb played a tighter game, only allowing two goals, but the team would fail to put any points on the board. Algood would get the win, 8-0.
Lady Saints Goalkeeper Mary Maple had 18 saves on the night.
On Oct. 1, the Lady Saints traveled to Jackson County where the team would fair better. The game would go back and forth, then 20-minutes into the first half Jackson County would strike, giving them the 1-0 lead.
DeKalb would come back five minutes later when the Lady Saints were awarded a penalty kick. DeKalb’s Sophie Hackett would score and the half would end in a tie, 1-1.
The second half was hard-fought on both sides, with both teams having multiple opportunities at scoring. The Lady Saints took 27 total shots at the goal, but it was not to be. The second half would remain scoreless, and the game would end in a tie.
Maple had 10 saves on the night, and DMS ended their first soccer season with a record of 2-11-1.
