The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints soccer team has started their season, with their first match not going as planned.
On Friday, August 6, the Lady Saints traveled to Walter J. Baird in Lebanon for their first contest. It did not go as planned as the girls fell 9-0.
The Lady Saints would get on track at their next game however, gaining their first win. On Thursday, August 12, the Lady Saints played host to the visiting Upperman Yellow Jackets, where sixth Grader Azul Garcia finished a mistake by the Upperman goalkeeper. The Lady Saints jumped in front, 1-0.
Shortly after, Tatum Young earned the assist off of a great cross, and Larissa Mooneyhan put it in the back of the net. Lady Saints go up 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets didn't stop though as they add a goal, before halftime making the score 2-1.
In the second half, a Tatum Young penalty kick put the Lady Saints up 3-1.
Upperman would score once more late in the game, but it would not be enough. The final score is 3-2 with the Lady Saints earning their first win in conference play. They are now 1-0 in the conference.
The Lady Saints participated in the Kickin Cancer Playday last Saturday, August 14, in Manchester, where they met some very tough competition. DMS would go on to lose all seven games with no goals to report.
DMS will play host twice this coming week. On Tuesday, Warren County comes to town, and on Thursday visiting Thurman Francis takes on the Lady Saints. Both kickoffs are at 6 P.M. with JV after.
