The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints had a short week last week, taking Thursday off for homecoming. But the one game they did play ended with another victory for the first year soccer program.
The team was at home, this time facing Jackson County in what looked to be a struggle for the first ten minutes of play. It was then that the Lady Saints’ Anissa Hall struck with the first goal of the game.
Only 15 minutes later Jhoany Gaspar would get a goal of her own, with an assist from Hall. DeKalb would end the first half with the 2-0 lead.
The second half was a struggle with both teams going back and forth. The Lady Saints showed definite improvement from earlier in the season, showing ball awareness and passing ability. With 20 minutes left in the game, Sarah Starnes would get DeKalb’s third and final goal, giving the Lady Saints the shutout, 3-0.
Goalie Mary Maple had 13 saves during the game.
The Lady Saints’ next game will be Sept. 26, at Overton County.
