Lady Saints get Christmas wins

The Lady Saints went into the Christmas break with a pair of big wins. One game was a come-from-behind thriller, while the other was a blowout.

 

On Dec. 20 the Lady Saints took on a team from Tullahoma West. The game would start out slow for DMS, but the girls would hang in there and make for an interesting end.

 

DeKalb only scored three points in the first period, with a three-point basket by Julia Curtis. Tullahoma jumped out to a big lead, putting 14 points on the scoreboard.

 

The Lady Saints score 15 in the second period, while holding Tullahoma to 10. Macy Hedge had a pair of three-pointers, a two-point shot, and a free throw, while Curtis added two two-point baskets. Sophie Cripps also had a two-pointer. Tullahoma held a 24-18 lead at halftime.

 

DMS came away with 11 points in the third period, with Curtis getting a two and three-pointer, while Hedge and Joni Robinson each got a three-point shot. Tullahoma was held to eight points, narrowing their lead, 32-29.

 

The Lady Saints scored 10 points in the fourth, with Robinson taking a pair of two-point baskets, and Curtis and Sarah Anne Colwell each getting a two-pointer and a free throw. Tullahoma was held to only four points, giving the Lady Saints a 39-36 come-from-behind victory.

 

Curtis was one for five on free throws, while Hedge and Colwell were each one for one. Robinson was zero for two.

 

On Dec. 22, the Lady Saints were back in action, this time taking on the Lady Owls of Smith County. DMS would jump out with a big lead and never look back.

 

The Lady Saints scored 20 points in the first period, with Robinson taking three three-pointers, while Abbi Taylor got a pair of two-pointers. Mya Ruch had a three-point basket, while Curtis and Colwell each had a two-pointer. Defensively, the Lady Owls were held to seven points, giving DMS a huge lead.

 

DeKalb scored five points in the second period, all from Julia Curtis. She score a two and three-point basket. Smith County was held to only one point, giving DMS a 25-8 lead at halftime.

 

The Lady Saints only scored three in the third period. Curtis had a two-pointer, while Robinson scored a free throw point. The Lady Owls scored four, but DMS kept the lead, 28-12.

 

DeKalb came away with 12 points to close out the game. Taylor had a pair of two-point baskets, while Robinson, Curtis, Colwell, and Cripps each had one. The Lady Owls were held to zero points in the period, giving the Lady Saints a 40-12 victory.

 

Robinson was one for two on free throws, while Taylor and Cripps were each zero for one.
