LS

The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints basketball continued their season, playing a couple of home games before going on the road to Warren County. The girls have run into some tough competition, falling in all three matches.

On Friday, November 4, the Lady Saints were on their home court, hosting Cannon County. DMS would keep the game close, right up until the final period. Eventually the match would be decided in overtime.

Lola Colwell sank a two-pointer for the Lady Saints in the first period, but unfortunately that would be the only points they would see. Cannon came away with eight points and the lead.

DMS finally got into the game in the second period, with Olivia Derrick a two-point basket and a couple of free throws, while Brooke Fuson had a two-point shot of her own. Jordyn Agee also added a free throw point. Cannon was held to just two points, with the Lionettes holding on to a 10-9 halftime lead.

The Lady Saints jumped ahead in the third period, scoring 11 points. Agee caught fire with a two-pointer, three-pointer, and a free throw, while Derrick had a three-point shot herself. Lillie Grace Young added a two-point basket as well. Cannon was held to five, giving DeKalb a 20-15 lead.

DeKalb’s four points of the fourth period all came from free throws. Young sank three, while Maggie Hendrixson had one. Defensively, the Lady Saints couldn’t hold Cannon back, and they scored nine points at the end of regulation, tying the game 24-24.

In overtime, Cannon scored eight points with a pair of two-point shots and free throws. The Lady Saints’ Derrick hit a three-point basket while Fuson added a two-pointer. It wasn’t enough. Cannon claimed the 32-29 overtime win.

The following Tuesday the girls would be back on their home court, this time taking on a tough Rickman team. It would not be a good night for the home team.

The Lady Saints were held scoreless in the first period, while Rickman piled on 16 points.

Maggie Hendrixson would finally get DeKalb on the board in the second period, sinking a three-point basket, but Rickman would add six more. Rickman was up 22-3 at the half.

Once again, DMS was held scoreless in the third period, while Rickman padded their lead with 14.

The Lady Saints would only manage one more point in the game, a free throw by Haley Moore, while Rickman added four more to the board to take the 40-4 victory.

On Friday, the ladies were on the road, traveling to McMinnville to face the Lady Pioneers of Warren County. It would be yet another rough night.

The Lady Saints came away with four points in the first period, with two-pointers from Maddie Hendrixson and Jordyn Agee. The Lady Pioneers were on fire, scoring 16 points.

DeKalb managed seven points in the second period, with Agee sinking a three-pointer and two-pointer, while Hendrixson added another two-point shot. Warren continued on with 17 more points and the 33-11 lead at the half.

The Lady Saints only scored two points in the third period, off of a two-pointer by Agee. The Lady Pioneers piled on with 19 more points and a 52-13 lead.

With the mercy rule in effect, the clock kept running and DeKalb scored one more point, a free throw by Haley Moore. The Lady Pioneers sealed their win with 15 more points, and a 67-14 victory.
