The DMS Lady Saints started the conference schedule off with two different teams last week, Prescott Middle on Tuesday, and Cornerstone on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the Lady Saints traveled to Prescott to face a well-tested opponent in the Bulldogs. Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, with DeKalb controlling the ball more.
Prescott’s defense finally broke as Sophie Hackett scored on a rebounded shot. This proved to be all DMS needed as their defense looked strong and won the contest 1-0 for their first win of the year. Mary Maple finished with eleven saves.
On Thursday, DMS traveled to face conference opponent, Cornerstone. From the first whistle to the last whistle DMS looked to control the ball. Malia Stanley put away two goals in the first half while the defense only allowed one. At the half, the Lady Saints were up 2-1.
DMS continued to possess the ball as Cornerstone allowed two more goals, one by Sophie Hacket and the other by Avery Valdez. Mary Maple ended the night with four saves.
The Lady Saints start conference play 2-0 and will host Avery Trace Thursday night at 5 p.m. on the DCHS soccer practice field for their first home game of the season.
