While all other local basketball seasons have come to an end, the DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints still had one more game to play. The team advanced to the championship game of the TNT State Tournament in Springfield.
The championship game had been originally scheduled for Feb. 21, but had to be rescheduled for Feb. 28 due to all the snow and icy weather experienced over the region over the past weeks. The delay did the Lady Saints no favors, as they took on Brentwood Academy.
Brentwood scored seven points in the first period, while holding the Lady Saints to zero. Julia Curtis had the only chance for points, but missed two free throws.
DeKalb managed to get on the board in the second period, with Curtis taking a pair free throws and a two-pointer, while Sarah Anne Colwell added a two-point basket of her own. Brentwood continued to pile on the points, scoring 14, and taking a 21-6 halftime lead.
The Lady Saints put nine points on the scoreboard in the third period, with Madison Parsley getting a two and three-pointer, while Joni Robinson and Curtis each got a two-point shot. Brentwood added 15 more, taking a 36-15 lead.
Curtis scored the only points for the Lady Saints in the fourth period, with a couple of two-point baskets. Brentwood scored 12 complimentary points, taking the championship win, 48-19.
Curtis was two for five on free throws, while Lera Britt was zero for two. The Lady Saints ended their season with second place in the TNT Tournament, with a record of 21-6.
