Kora Kilgore lead the DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints softball team to a shutout last week, allowing zero runs and besting Watertown by a score of 13-0.

On Monday, April 5, the Lady Saints were on the road in Wilson County taking on Watertown. DeKalb would get things going in the second inning, when Brooklyn Fuson

tripled on a line drive to right field, bringing Bryna Pelham home.

Things were even better for DMS in the third inning, when Kilgore tripled on a line drive to right field, as Zayleigh Washer and Annabella Dakas scored. Just after, Pelham doubled on a pop fly to left field, sending Kilgore home, then Pelham would steal third, then score on passed ball. After that, Fuson tripled on a line drive to right field, bringing Hannah Brown home. As the third ended, the Lady Saints were up, 6-0.

The Lady Saints continued to dominate, scoring another run in the fourth, and another in the fifth. They would nail the coffin shut in the seventh, scoring five more runs and taking a 13-0 shutout. The girls tallied five runs in the seventh with Pelham, Katherine Knowles, Laurie Rigsby, Zayleigh Washer, and Kilgore with RBIs.

The Lady Saints were boosted by Bryana Pelham who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Pelham doubled in the second, doubled in the third, doubled in the fifth, and homered in the seventh.

Kilgore led DMS in seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out 18. The Lady Saints totaled 16 hits in the game. Pelham, Fuson, Kilgore, and Annabella Dakas each collected multiple hits.

The following day, the Lady Saints would not be as fortunate, as they faced off against Gordonsville at home. Gordonsville would jump out to an early lead and not let go.

Gordonsville took the lead on an error by right fielder Dakas in the first inning, followed by home run, putting them up, 4-0.

DMS got things going at their first at bats. Avery Agee doubled on a pop fly to left field, and advanced to third on the throw, allowing Zayleigh Washer to score. Next up,  Pelham hit a ground ball and reached on an error as Agee scored. Then, Brown hit a grounder and reached on an error by shortstop, sending Pelham home. The Lady Saints cut the lead by one, 4-3.

Gordonsville would bounce back in the third, scoring off of a ground out to second, then following up with a double that drove two runners home. Gordonsville increased their lead, 7-3.

The Lady Saints kept right with them at the bottom of the third. Kilgore singled on a line drive to center field, sending Washer home, then Pelham doubled on a line drive to center field, driving Adreana Cuevas home.

Despite DMS keeping the game close, Gordonsville doubles kept the score just out of reach for the Lady Saints. A double in the fourth sent two runners home, then a pop up out to center field allowed another run after tagging up.

The Lady Saints last gasp came in the fifth.  Pelham hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by second base, allowing Dakas to score, but that would be the last point DMS would see. Gordonsville took the 10-6 victory.

The Lady Saints lost despite out-hitting Gordonsville six to four. Kora Kilgore took the loss going five innings, allowing ten runs on four hits and striking out ten. Kilgore also led the Lady Saints with two hits in three at bats.
