Last week, The Lady Saints went on the road to face two conference opponents, at Fentress County and Algood Middle.

First, the Lady Saints made the long journey to Fentress County on Sept. 9. The game went back and forth in the first half with the score remaining 0-0 for the first fifteen minutes. DMS finally scored on a shot by Malia Stanley to make the game 1-0.

DMS continued to control the ball and was rewarded with a 3-0 halftime lead. The defense and offense continued to look determined as the Lady Saints put four more goals in to come away with a final score of 7-0.

Malia Stanley had three goals in the game, while Sarah Starnes had two. Anna Rachel Blair and Caitlin Bennett each had one goal. Goalkeeper Mary Maple had three saves in the game, while Aizley Turner had two.

On Sept. 12, the Lady Saints knew they would be tested in a game with a first place Algood team. DMS is currently in second place.

Algood controlled much of the ball during the first few minutes, and was rewarded with a 1-0 advantage.

DMS soon struck back with a goal of their own from Malia Stanley for the 1-1 tie.

In the closing seconds, Algood put another goal in to make the score 2-1 at the half.

Despite Mary Maples’ great work as DMS goalkeeper, Algood proved too much for the Lady Saints to handle as Algood came out on fire in the second half. Algood put two quick goals in, to drown the spirits of the Lady Saints. Algood would get the 5-1 win.

Malia Stanley had the Lady Saints’ one and only goal, while goalkeeper Mary Maple had 12 saves in the game.

The Lady Saints’ next game will be at home on Thursday against Jackson County. Game time is at 5 p.m.
