The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints softball team managed to get two games on the books last week, all in the same day. The game scheduled for Monday, March 13, had to be rescheduled due to weather, and a doubleheader with White County, scheduled for Tuesday, was played the following Thursday. The teams would end up splitting the day.
In the first game, the Lady Saints would get on the board first. Lakelyn Nelson would get a double at the top of the first, followed by a double by Allie Estes, sending Nelson home. Later, Lillie Young would get a single sending Estes home. The Lady Saints were on the board, 2-0.
White County would go three and out at their first at bat, then DMS would add more to the scoreboard. Sophie Adcock, Jerusalem Aldino, and Liliana Judkins, would each get a walk, then Maggie Hendrixson came away with a triple to center. Nelson would walk, followed by Young who took a HBP. Brooklyn Fuson would ten walk sending Hendrixson home. The Lady Saints were up, 6-0.
As White County came to bat, they would finally put two runs on the board, then DMS added one more run at the top of the third. Aldino would walk to first, and later Nelson would hit a double to right as Aldino scored. DeKalb was up 7-2, but the bottom was about to fall out of the game for the Lady Saints.
White County’s bats came to life and they were able to score nine runs at the bottom of the third. With a single by Hannah Brown and walks by Adcock and Aldino, DMS would load the bases in the fourth, but White would manage to get off the field. White claimed the 11-7 win.
Things would be different in the next game and the Lady Saints would turn the table. White would manage one run at the bottom of the second inning, but DMS would come to life in the third.
Aldino got a walk, then Liliana Judkins got a single on a hit to center. Aldino would steal third, while Judkins stole second. Hendrixson would walk, then Nelson got a single to center, followed by a single to center by Allie Estes. Brown reached on a hit to right, followed by Young with a hit to right as well. Adcock would then hit a triple to center, followed by a double by Aldino. Before White County could get off the field, DMS was up, 8-1.
The Lady Saints would add to their tally in the fourth after a single to right by Estes, followed by a triple to center by Brown. White would manage one more run in the fourth, but DMS would claim the 9-2 victory.
