Lady Saints start season with a bang

The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints basketball squad opened their regular season on Nov 29 with a 44-10 rout of Gordonsville Middle School.

 

The Lady Saints started strong and stayed that way, outscoring Gordonsville 14-0 in the first period, with Emme Colwell putting up eight points, six being the result of three-point shots. Lera Britt tossed in a free throw and scored a two-pointer to add three for DeKalb, while Kennedy Agee scored two points in the period, and Julia Curtis sunk a free throw.

 

The DMS ladies opened up with both barrels in the second period, putting up 20 points while the team from Smith County only managed two.

 

Anna Chew scored seven points in the period for the Lady Saints, hitting a two-pointer, a three-pointer, and two free throws. Curtis put in four, two baskets and two free throws. Agee and Megan Walker recorded two points each, and Colwell dropped in a free throw to round out the first half of the contest, with DeKalb leading 34-2.

 

The Lady Saints continued to outpace the team from Gordonsville in the third period, scoring nine points to their four. Kenzi France scored five of those points, sinking a free throw and two two-pointers. Agee and Katie Colwell added two each as well, and the period ended with DeKalb leading 43-6.

 

Natalie Snipes hit a free throw for the Lady Saints’ only score in the fourth, while Gordonsville put four points on the board. When the clock ran out, DMS still enjoyed a 44-10 lead.

 

Emme Colwell led the DMS scoring effort with 11 points in the contest, while Curtis and Chew posted seven each. Agee scored six for the Lady Saints, while Kenzi France scored five points, and Lera Britt added three.

 

Walker and Katie Colwell put in two each for DeKalb, and Natalie Snipes added one point to the DeKalb offensive effort.

 

The Lady Saints will travel to Prescott Middle School in Cookeville on Nov. 5. Game time is 6 p.m. They will then host Watertown at the Mike Braswell Gymnasium in Smithville on Nov. 9.
