Lady Saints sting Yellow Jackets in 10-1 blow-out victory

Kayley Caplinger tosses in a strike during Thursdays match-up against the Cornerstone Yellowjackets. Caplinger not only was a force at the mound, she made her presence known at the plate, blasting two home runs and six RBIs.

On Thursday evening the Lady Saints took the field at home against the Cornerstone Yellowjackets. The Saints stung the Yellowjackets in a 10-1 blow-out victory.
In the top of the first, Kayley Caplinger was at the mound for the Lady Saints, and her first batter grounded out to the second base man. Caplinger’s next batter was hit by the pitch. The next batter hit a high fly ball to third and Katie Hall hauled in the second out. The next batter grounded out to first to end the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the first, Tyra Graham led off for the Lady Saints with a fly out to second base. Alexis Bates was the next batter up and would be walked. Dani Meadows was up next to bat but would ground out back to the pitcher. Caplinger was the next batter up and would show that she was a dual threat as she jacked a two-run homerun clearing the fence on her first pitch. Katie Hall ended the inning striking out.
In the top of the second, Caplinger’s first batter was walked and her second batter reached first on an error from Hall at third. The runners would advance to second and third on a wild pitch. The next two batters would get the same result as they were struck out. The fifth batter for the Yellowjackets hit a deep ball to right field and was caught for the third out.
In the bottom of the second, Alex Foutch was first up for the Lady Saints and struck out. Anna Malone was next up to bat and was hit by the pitch. Hailey Redman was up next to bat and  walked. Hanah Panter was up and flew out to the pitcher. Graham was back up to the plate, and with runners on second and third, she blasted a deep ball that dropped in left field good for an RBI double, putting a runner on third. Bates would end the inning on a ground out to second base.
In the top of the third,  the first batter singled on a line drive down the third baseline. The next batter would ground out to third base and advance the runner to second. The third batter hit a pop fly to the pitcher and was caught for an out. The fourth batter of the inning would drive a ball to right field good for an RBI. The runner was given an inch but wanted a mile. As she  headed for third base she was tagged out to end the at bat for the Yellowjackets.
In the bottom of the third, Meadows dropped in a double off the left-field fence. Caplinger was up again to bat and again showed that she was a force to be reckoned with as she belted another ball deep to centerfield good for her second homerun of the game. Katie Hall was not to be outdone as she stepped up to the plate and ripped a deep shot to left field good for a homerun of her own. Foutch was next and reached first on an error by the Yellowjackets. Malone, Redmon and Panter would all strike out to end the inning.
In the top of the fourth, Caplinger struck out her first batter. The next batter would single on a ground ball that made its way up the alley. The third batter hit a high fly ball that was caught by the pitcher for out number two. The third out of the inning came from catcher Danni Meadows who caught the runner attempting to steal second, and threw her out from behind the plate.
In the bottom of the fourth, Graham led off for the Lady Saints with a fly out to second base.  Bates would follow with a walk then went on to steal second. Meadows would again drive the ball to deep centerfield good for an RBI double, and on the throw to home Meadows stole third base. Caplinger reached first on an error and was also credited with an RBI as Meadows came in to score. Hall was up again and matched Caplinger’s previous feat of two homeruns with her second homerun of the evening. Both Foutch and Malone would ground out to end the inning.
In the top of the fifth, the first batter would ground out back to the pitcher. The next batter would also ground out, this time to second base. The third batter would drop a single down on an error and go on to steal second. The next batter was no match for Caplinger and was struck out, ending the game in a 10-1 win.
