The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints Soccer Team played a total of three games last week with one ending in the best score the team has seen yet, while another ended in the worst.
On Sept. 3, the Lady Saints were at home where they faced Avery Trace. It was only three minutes into the game when Avery Trace’s Anna Soto would score the one and only goal of the game.
Lady Saints’ goalie Mary Maple would have 16 saves on the day, and the team would have two attempts at the goal. The 1-0 loss would be the DMS soccer team’s best game of the season to that date.
On Sept. 5, the Lady Saints traveled to Fentress County to take on York Institute. There, York scored its first goal about ten minutes into the first half.
A second goal was scored by York on a miscommunication by the Lady Saints’ defense, and a third was scored on a breakaway by the York offense.
DeKalb had a goal by Jhoany Gaspar on a through ball, through the middle of the York defense. Anissa Hall had an assist. Goalkeeper Mary Maple had a total of 19 saves during the game, but the Lady Saints lost, 3-1.
The following Saturday, the Lady Saints were at home as they faced Cumberland County in what would become DeKalb’s worst loss yet.
Cumberland scored 12 in the first half, then added on seven more in the second. In all, Cumberland took a total of 40 shots on goal.
DMS started out slow, but improved in the second half, and had two shots during the game. Mary Maple had 11 saves on the day, then five minutes into the second half DMS switched keepers. Aizley Turner finished out the game with seven saves.
The Lady Saints fell big to Cumberland, 19-0.
A 20-minute junior varsity game was played afterwards that ended 0-0, the first non-loss for the DMS Soccer team.
The Lady Saints next game will be Thursday at home against Overton County.
