The DMS Lady Saints softball team faced off against the Walter J. Baird Blue Devils in Lebanon on March 17, leaving the Devils with a 3-2 loss in a nailbiter.
The DMS squad won the game on eight hits, all singles, one from Maddison Parsley in the first inning, who led off with the single-bagger. She also got a base on balls in the third and scored twice for the Lady Saints, once in the first inning, and once in the fifth.
MorganWalker slapped out two singles, one in the third and another in the fifth, and scored the third and final DMS run in the third inning. Kenzie France also singled twice, in the first and third innings. Both resulted in RBIs.
Joni Robinson had an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field in the third, and Abbi Taylor singled in the fourth. Leslie Hembree also put in two singles, in the second and fourth innings.
The Blue Devils scored a run in the third inning and one in the fourth, and the team had three hits in the game, all singles.
On the previous day, the Lady Saints met Cannon County in Woodbury, where Cannon edged by late in the game for an 8-10 win.
Braya Murphy crossed the plate first for DeKalb, scoring after putting in a single in the first inning. She dropped in another single in the third inning, and a double in the fourth, crossing the plate again both times.
MorganWalker scored after a walk to first in the third inning, and Maddison Parsley put in a run after walking in the fourth. She backed that performance up with a double in the fifth. Kenzie France rattled Cannon’s cage with three doubles, in the first, third and fourth innings.
Joni Robinson put a single on the books in the first inning, and Lydia Brown singled in the fourth, and Emme Colwell reached first on a walk in the fourth.
The Lady Saints enjoyed a comfortable lead, holding Cannon scoreless until the Woodbury team came alive in the final inning of the game, posting all ten of their runs in the fifth on two singles and a series of walks.
Cannon took the game scoring ten runs on four hits, all singles, While DeKalb put in 10 hits to post eight runs. The Lady Saints will play Watertown in an away game on March 26 at 4:30 p.m., and will face Gordonsville in Smith County on April 7 at 5 p.m.
