The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints softball team has been hot early in their season, and continued with a strong week of play, only falling in one game.

On Friday, March 5, the Lady Saints were on the road, taking on a tough Warren County team. DeKalb would clinch the lead in the fourth inning and never look back.

The Lady Saints fired up the offense in the first inning, when Bryana Pelham singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. DeKalb would score two more, then in the bottom of the third inning, Warren tied things up at three.

With game tied, the Lady Saints batted at the top of the fourth, when Kora Kilgore grounded out, scoring one run. Kilgore also toed the rubber for Saints. The pitcher allowed one hit and four runs over five innings, striking out 13.

The Lady Saints racked up seven hits in the game. Pelham and Katherine Knowles each racked up multiple hits for DeKalb, and each collected two hits to lead Lady Saints. DMS would take the 7-4 victory.

The following Monday, the Lady Saints were on their home field, this time taking on a strong Upperman team. DeKalb would fall behind early, and not recover.

The Lady Saints lost despite out-hitting Upperman four to two. Upperman got things moving in the first inning, scoring two runs. DeKalb would try to claw its way back, scoring one in the first inning, then another in the second. In the end, it was too little, too late. Upperman would come away with the 4-2 win.

Kora Kilgore threw the heat for Saints, and surrendered four runs on two hits over five innings, striking out 13. Avery Agee led Saints with two hits in three at bats.

The next evening, the Lady Saints were once again on the road, this time traveling to border rival Smith County. While their defeat to Upperman might have been a game they let get away from them, DeKalb would come out on fire against Smith with a shutout.

Kilgore had all the right stuff for DMS, allowing three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 16. The Lady Saints bested Smith County by a score of 5-0.

DeKalb opened up scoring in the first inning. Pelham grounded out, scoring one run. The Lady Saints hit one home run on the day. Zayleigh Washer had a homer in the sixth inning.

Washer led Saints with two hits in four at bats, with one homerun and a single, Pelham had a triple, Kilgore with a double, and Dakas and Rigsby each with a single for the Saints.
