Lady Saints win at Gordonsville, lose to Cannon

The Lady Saints traveled to Gordonsville to take on the Lady Tigers last Tuesday, hoping to complete the game prior to the rain. DMS lead Gordonsville 10 to 2 at the end of 2 innings when the game was finally called due to rain.

Lexi Lafever and Kennedy Polk both went 1 for 2, each with a single, as Kennedy Polk captured a RBI with her hit. Jacey Hatfield hit a bomb to center field for a triple and a RBI. Mallori Hart had 2 walks, while Jacey Hatfield, Ally Griffith, Emma Johnson, Katie Colwell and Bella France each gained a walk. Also, Bella France, Beth Reed, Ally Griffith, and Katie Colwell each had a hit by pitch to advance to base. Jacey Hatfield and Ally Griffith each had 2 stolen bases to help lead the Lady Saints to their 10-2 victory.

On Friday, the ladies traveled to Cannon County hoping to add to their win column, but fell short. DMS had 5 total hits of the game to Cannon County’s 6 hits. Right fielder Morgan Walker stepped up big for the Lady Saints, hitting 2 for 2, a single and a triple off of a hard hit to center field. Shortstop Jacey Hatfield also had a triple that was hit to deep center field, driving in the only run for the Lady Saints, from leftfielder Lexi Lafever, who had reached the base earlier on a fielder’s choice to third base. Ellie Cripps later hit a line drive to center field for a double while Alley Griffith logged a single, but all attempts fell short to produce any more runs. Bella France had Cannon’s only walk for the game.

Ellie Cripps was DMS’ losing pitcher, facing 25 batters, giving up 11 runs, 6 hits, 6 walks with 1 strike out for a final score of an 11 to 1 victory over the Lady Saints. The Lady Saints’ record stands at 1-2. DMS softball has spring break off but will next travel to Prescott in Cookeville on Monday the 27th.
