In the second game of the double header against York, DeKalb’s Tyson was up to pitch.
In the top of the first, Tyson was showing off her skill by sitting three straight batters, striking out the first batter and forcing the next two batters to fly out in the infield.
In the bottom of the first, Meadows led off with a walk. Tyson followed with a bunt single, but Meadows was forced out at second. Cripps was the next batter up and during her second pitch Tyson stole second base. Cripps would keep the hot bat, ripping a RBI double, but would be tagged out at third attempting to get extra bases.
In the top of the second, the first batter would hit a ground ball back to the pitcher and would be thrown out. The next batter found contact with the ball, hitting it deep to left field, but was caught for an out by Taylor. The third batter proved to be no match for Tyson as she was struck out.
In the bottom of the second, Hutchings was up first to bat and dropped in a single just past the first baseman’s head. The next batter, Green, singled on a perfectly placed bunt. Monette also singled but there was a force out at third. Chelsey Brannon singled on an error from the pitcher as she could not field the ball. Lindsey Taylor ripped a ground ball down the third-base line for an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Meadows had the chance and capitalized with a three-run triple that hit the fence just missing a grand slam. Tyson brought Meadows home with an RBI single that made it past the second base man. Cripps couldn’t repeat her earlier success and grounded out to third base. Hendrixson ended the inning by flying out to left field.
In the top of the third, Tyson again proved to be in top form. The first batter reached first but it would be the only time any batter found contact with the ball as she struck out three straight batters, making it a quick unproductive inning for the Lady Dragons.
In the bottom of the third, Hutchings was up to lead off for DeKalb. Hutchings grounded out to third base. Green followed by hitting a high fly ball to centerfield that was easily fielded for an out. Monette would slap a double into left field. Brannon would end the inning grounding out back to the pitcher.
In the top of the fourth, Tyson’s first batter would fly out to left field. The second batter never had the chance to fly out as she was sat down striking out. Tyson continued to shut down the hitters for the Lady Dragons as the last batter was forced into grounding out to third base.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lindsey Taylor led off for the Tigers and hit a high fly ball that dropped in the outfield for a single. Meadows was looking back in form by now after the three-week injury as she brought the runner home with a double. Along with her hot pitching arm, Tyson developed the hot bat and singled to right field, advancing the runner to third. As the runner thought about stealing home, Tyson stole second base. Cripps was the next batter and during her at bat there was a wild pitch that allowed Meadows to score and put Tyson on third. Cripps would be walked in her at bat. Hendrixson drove in a run on her single to shallow right field. Hutchings dropped down an RBI single from an error. Green would find first base but it came by way of a walk. Monette also found her way to first base from a walk. Brannon slapped in an RBI and reached first base on an error. With the bases loaded, Lindsey Taylor would hit the ball for a sac-fly RBI. Meadows, who still had the bases loaded, was hit by the pitch. Shauna Taylor was presented the chance to hit but was struck out. With the bases still loaded and DeKalb with a huge lead, Loren Cripps went up to bat. Cripps was faced with a 2-2 count, then with a swift swing of the bat belted a deep line drive that was just good enough for a walk-off gradslam, ending any hope for the Lady Dragons as the mercy rule went into effect after the four-run shot by Cripps. DeKalb improves to 12-7 on the year.
On Friday afternoon the Lady Tigerettes played host to the York Institute Lady Dragons in a double-header. The Tigerettes demolished the Lady Dragons in both games, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 32-0. The first game was a 15-0 blow-out win, the second game a 17-0 mercy-rule induced victory.
With the Tigerettes up to bat first, Danielle Tyson led things off for DeKalb, but struck out. Annieka Norton was up next and ground out to the short stop. Brooke Hutchings ended the at bat for DeKalb by striking out.
In the bottom of the first, Lauren “Smiley” Colwell was at the mound in the pitching position. The first batter hit a low, short, hopping line drive to second base where Hutchings made the throw for the out. Colwell would strike out the second batter. The third batter for York grounded out back to the pitcher.
In the top of the second, Tiffini Hendrixson led off for DeKalb with a ground ball that was fielded for an out. Abbey Caldwell was the next batter and would also ground out to second base for the second out. Loren Cripps was up after Caldwell and blasted a deep fly ball in left field good for a double. Taylor Monette would end the at bat grounding out back to the pitcher.
In the bottom of the second, the first batter found a seam in the outfield, dropping in a single in centerfield. The next batter was no trouble as Colwell struck the batter out. The next batter singled on a bunt, but the runner on was forced out at second. The fourth batter hit a fly-ball foul behind the catcher Hendixson. She made the catch to end the inning.
In the top of the third, Hanah Green led off with a double to right field. Next up was the pitcher Colwell. The first pitch was off target and bounced past the catcher, with Green stealing third base. Colwell would later fly out. Tyson was next up and would bring in Green for a score, and would reach first on an error. Norton also reached first base on an error with the runner advancing to third. Hutchings was the next batter and dropped down what would have been a sac-fly RBI, but reached first on an error. Runners then advanced to second and third. Hendrixson was the next batter and would snag an RBI single, then go on to steal second. The next batter, Caldwell, would blast a sac-fly RBI to centerfield. The runner on third was caught in a pickle and tagged out for the last out, but not before DeKalb put up four runs on York.
In the bottom of the third, the first batter would ground out back to the pitcher and be thrown out. The second batter reached base on a walk. The third batter for York hit a fly ball to left field that was caught by Cripps. The next batter would tip a foul ball that soared high in the afternoon sunshine but was successfully fielded by the catcher Hendrixson.
In the top of the fourth, Cripps led of for DeKalb and singled down the third-base line. Monette followed with a RBI single and then stole second base on poor fielding by York. Green was up next and laid down a short hopper to third base and singled on an error, advancing the runner to third. Green also stole second base. With runners on second and third, Colwell was up to try to extend the lead for DeKalb. Colwell’s hit was good for an RBI single. Green would steal home for another score. Tyson was up next to bat but would fly out to centerfield. Norton was up and would rip a deep fly ball to the fence that was good for a two-run triple. Hutchings would fly out to the catcher on a foul ball. Hendrixson dropped in an RBI double. Caldwell was up next and would reach first on an error and would steal second base. Cripps was back up for the Tigerettes and continued her hitting streak with an RBI single. Monette was the last batter of the top of the inning and flew out to right field.
In the bottom of the fourth, the first batter dropped in a single in shallow right field. The second batter would ground out to third and the runner on first advanced to second. The next batter for York flew out to first base, where Green made the grab. The last batter of the inning would ground out to the short stop.
In the top of the fifth, Green was up, leading the Tigers off, and reached first on an error and then advanced to second base a second error. Colwell was the next batter and also reached first base on an error with Green advancing to third. In Norton’s next bat she struck out. Hutchings was next up to bat and dropped in an RBI reaching first on an error throw to first. The throw to first was also bad and another run would score for DeKalb. Hendrixson was up next and would drive in a run on a single. Alex Meadows was the next batter up in her first appearance since her injury a few weeks ago and would prove to start out a bit sluggish, as she flew out to shallow left field. Cripps was up next looking to keep her hot streak alive but fell just short of batting 1000 percent for the game and flew out to the catcher settling for .750 average.
In the bottom of the fifth, a new pitcher came in for DeKalb, Shauna Taylor, to help close the game. Taylor’s first batter would be forced into a full count, then grounded out to the short stop. The second batter would hit a fly ball to second base awhich was caught by Hutchings. The third batter reached base on a walk. The next batter for York needed a miracle to come back from such a large deficit and two outs. There was no miracle in store for the batter as she grounded out to second base, ending the game on the run rule 15-0.
