



The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers were back on their home court last Tuesday, November 28, taking on visiting Cannon County in front of the hometown crowd. DeKalb kept pace with the Lionettes in the first half of the game, but let it slip away in the fourth.
The Lady Tigers scored 13 points in the first period, with three two-point baskets and a pair of free throws by Tess Barton, a three-point shot by Avery Agee, and a couple of free throw points by Ella VanVranken. Cannon opened up with 17 points.
Ella VanVranken and Barton each had a pair of two-pointers for the Lady Tigers in the second period, while Agee added a three-pointer. Chloe VanVranken had a two-pointer and a couple of free throw baskets. The Lionettes were held to 10 points, giving DeKalb the 28-27 halftime lead.
Chole VanVranken came away with a three-pointer, a couple of two-pointers, and a pair of free throws for the Lady Tigers in the third period, while her sister Ella added a couple of free throws. Cannon put 12 more points on the board, inching ahead of DeKalb 40-39.
It came down to the fourth, where DeKalb just couldn’t keep pace. Barton had a couple of two-point baskets, while Chloe VanVranken had a two-pointer, Cam Branin added a free throw shot. The Lionettes put 13 on the board, taking the 53-46 win.
The following Friday, the ladies traveled to Wilson County where they took on the Purple Lady Tigers of Watertown. This game would have a different outcome for DeKalb.
The Lady Tigers scored 13 in the first period with Tess Barton hitting a pair of two-pointers and a free throw, while Ella VanVranken had a two-pointer and three free throw points. Avery Agee added a three-point basket. Watertown was held to seven points.
DeKalb kept rolling in the second period, scoring 16 points. Ella hit three two-point shots and a free throw, while Chloe had a three-pointer. Brooklyn Fuson, Agee, and Barton each had a two-point basket. The Lady Purple Tigers were held to 111, giving the Lady Tigers a 29-18 lead at the half.
Barton hit a two-pointer and a free throw for the Lady Tigers in the third, while Agee hit another three-point basket. Watertown added nine, but DeKalb was still ahead, 35-27.
Ella VanVranken sank a pair of two-point shots and a couple of free throws for the Lady Tigers in the fourth, while Barton added a two-pointer, and Allie Melton a free throw. Watertown added 11 points, but DeKalb claimed the 44-39 victory.
