



The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers finished out the regular season last week, playing one game on the road before coming home on Friday for Senior Night.
On Tuesday, February 7, the Lady Tigers took a long road trip to Cumberland County where they took on the Lady Jets. DeKalb would fall behind in the first period, but keep the game within reach all the way to the fourth.
The Lady Tigers came away with eight points in the first period, with a two and three-point basket by Ella VanVranken and a three-pointer by her sister, Chloe. The Lady Jets would put 14 on the board.
Avery Agee sank a three-pointer for DeKalb in the second period, while Chloe VanVranken and Madison Martin each had a two-point shot. Camryn Branin also added a free throw points. The Lady Jets would add 10 more to the scoreboard, taking a 24-16 lead at the half.
Ella VanVranken caught fire in the third period, putting up four two-point shots and a pair of free throws, while Chloe VanVranken had a three-point basket. Cumberland was held to just nine points, with the Lady Tigers cutting into the lead, 33-29.
The Lady Tigers powered through the fourth period putting up some big points. Agee had a pair of three-point baskets and four free throw points, while Ella VanVranken added five free throw shots. Martin had a two-pointer and a couple of free throws, while Branin had two free throw points of her own. Unfortunately, Cumberland would match DeKalb point for point, taking the 54-50 win.
Ella VanVranken had 20 points for the Lady Tigers in the game, while Agee had 13. Chloe VanVranken had eight points, Martin had six, and Branin had three.
The following Friday, the girls were back at home, playing on the newly named Coach Harold Luna Court on Senior Night against the Upperman Lady Bees. It would be another hard night for the girls.
The Lady Tigers only put six points on the board in the first period. Chloe VanVranken hit a three-point shot, while Avery Agee had a two-pointer. Ella VanVranken had a free throw point. Upperman came away with 14 points and a big lead.
DeKalb did slightly better in the second period, with Chloe VanVranken sinking seven free throws. Ella VanVranken had a two-pointer, while Cam Branin had a free throw of her own. The Lady Bees continued to pad their lead with 13 more points. At the half Upperman was up, 28-16.
Ella VanVranken finally got rolling in the third period, scoring on a two and three-point basket and a pair of free throws. Ella Hendrixson got on the board with a three-pointer, while Chloe VanVranken and Madison Martin each had a two-pointer. Upperman continued to pull away with 16 points and the 51-30 lead.
The Lady Tigers would only manage 14 points in the fourth, with Ella VanVranken hitting a two and three-pointer, and Martin and Agee each having a three-point basket. Tess Barton got on the board with a two-point shot, while Chloe VanVranken added a free throw point. The Lady Bees only scored 10, but it was more than enough for the 67-44 win.
Ella VanVranken scored 15 points in the game, while sister Chloe had 13. Agee scored eight, Martin five, Barton had two, and Branin had one.
