The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers opened their season last week during a tournament at DCHS, where they came away with some impressive wins.
On Friday, Nov. 14, the Lady Tigers took on Daniel 1 Academy of Cookeville. DeKalb pounced quickly, taking 23 points in the first period and holding D1A to only three. Jailyn Bolding had three two-pointers and a three-point basket, while Loren Cripps had a pair of three-pointers. Kristen Parsley and Morgan Pedigo each had a three-point shot, while Maggie Knowles had a two-pointer.
In the second period, the Lady Tigers increased their lead, taking 16 more points. Knowles had four two-point baskets, while Hannah Panter had two. Parsley also came away with another three-point basket. D1A was held to only four points, giving DeKalb a 39-7 lead at halftime.
The Lady Tigers continued their dominance in the third period, adding 20 more to the scoreboard. Ashli Chew and Knowles each had four two-pointers in the period, while Parsley had one. D1A only gained three more, with DeKalb’s lead increasing, 59-10.
Panter, Abby Evans, and Parsley each had a two-pointer in the fourth, complimenting DeKalb’s score. D1A was again held to only three points, giving the Lady Tigers a 65-13 victory.
Next, the Lady Tigers faced off with Riverside Christian Academy of Fayetteville. Once again, the Lady Tigers showed some muscle and started off with a big lead.
DeKalb scored 24 points in the first period, including two two-pointers and a three-point basket by Cripps, and two three-pointers by Pedigo. Chew and Knowles each had two two-point baskets, while Panter had a three-pointer. Riverside was held to four points.
The Lady Tigers added 15 points in the second period, including a pair of two-point shots by Bolding, and Pedigo and Panter each with a three-point basket. Knowles and Parsley each had a two-pointer. Riverside scored seven points, giving DeKalb a 39-11 lead at halftime.
In the third period, DeKalb put up 16 more points, including three two-pointers by Chew, and two-pointers by Cripps, Pedigo, Knowles, and Panter. Riverside got eight, and the Lady Tigers’ lead increased, 55-19.
DeKalb added six more points in the fourth, including two-point baskets by Haven Watkins, and Evans. Riverside gained only three, giving DeKalb the 61-22 win.
On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Lady Tigers were back in action, this time against Trousdale County.
Trousdale took the lead in the first period, scoring 18 points to DeKalb’s 15. For the Lady Tigers, Cripps had two two-pointers, while Chew and Knowles each had one.
The Lady Tigers took the lead in the second period, scoring 19 points and keeping Trousdale to 12. Pedigo had a pair of three-pointers, while Cripps had one. DeKalb was up 34-30 at the half.
Cripps came out on fire in the third period, scoring two two-point shots, and two three-point baskets. Bolding also had a three-pointer, with DeKalb adding 16 points. Trousdale was held to seven, giving the Lady Tigers a 50-37 lead.
DeKalb tacked on 12 more in the fourth, while holding Trousdale to four. Knowles had two two-pointers, while Panter had a three-point basket. DeKalb took the 62-41 win.
That same day, the Lady Tigers went up against Boyd Christian, and came away with yet another big win.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a huge start, taking 29 points in the first period. Pedigo had two three-point baskets, while Knowles and Bolding each had three two-pointers. Cripps and Chew each had two two-point shots. Boyd had only nine points.
DeKalb kept rolling in the second, putting 28 points on the board. Bolding had a pair of two-pointers and a pair of three-point baskets. Pedigo had two three-point shots, Cripps one, and Knowles had a two-pointer. Boyd had 13 points, giving the Lady Tigers a 57-22 lead at halftime.
Pedigo was on fire in the third period, getting three three-pointers and a two-point basket. Bolding and Watkins each had a two-pointer, adding to the Lady Tigers’ 19 points in the period. Boyd had 16 points, giving DeKalb a 76-38 lead.
The Lady Tigers added 10 complimentary points in the fourth, with Knowles taking three two-pointers and Bolding getting two. Boyd was held to three points, giving DeKalb the 86-41 victory.
That same day, DeKalb played Sewannee and took one more victory for the day.
The Lady Tigers came away with 14 points in the first period, including three two-pointers by Chew, and two-point shots by Cripps and Panter. Sewannee scored 11 points.
DeKalb had 15 points in the second period, with two two-pointers each by Cripps and Bolding, while Chew, Panter, and Watkins each had a two-point shot. Sewannee scored another 11 points, giving DeKalb a 29-22 lead at the half.
The offense for DeKalb was meant business in the third period, while defensive play was stingy. The Lady Tigers put 25 points on the board, while holding Sewannee to a goose egg. Cripps had four two-pointers, while Chew had two two-pointers and a three-point shot. Pedigo had two three-point shots, while Parsley had a two-pointer. DeKalb was up 54-22.
The Lady Tigers added 11 more points in the fourth, with Panter getting a two and three-pointer, Pedigo a three-point basket, and Parsley a two-pointer. Sewannee had seven points, giving DeKalb the 65-29 win.
