The DCHS Lady Tigers opened their season last week with a heavy schedule, playing two games in Warren County, and another four games the following Saturday at home during the DCHS Hall of Fame Playday.
The Lady Tigers had two road wins to start the season at the Warren County Hall of Fame Classic on Nov. 12. DeKalb beat South Pittsburgh 72-34 at a game at Warren County High School, then traveled to Boyd Christian where they got a 75-35 victory.
In the first game, the Lady Tigers led South Pittsburgh 22-11 in the first period, and 42-18 at the half. The girls were even more impressive in the second half, with a 60-26 lead after the third period, and ending the game with a 72-34 win.
Loren Cripps scored 22 points in the game, while Ashley Barnes had 17. Mackenzie Poteete scored 15 points, with Morgan Pedigo and Jailyn Bolding each getting six. Paige Winningham got four points.
That same evening, the Lady Tigers traveled across town to play Boyd Christian. DeKalb led 20-10 after the first quarter, and 40-26 at the half. The Lady Tigers increased their lead, 65-28 after the third period, and ended the game with a 75-35 win.
Winningham scored 18 points in the game, while Loren Cripps came away with 16. Morgan Pedigo got 14 points, with Jailyn Bolding getting seven, and Mackenzie Poteete and Hanna Panter each coming away with four. Ashley Barnes had two points in the game.
On the following Saturday, the Lady Tigers hosted the DCHS Hall of Fame Playday, and had been scheduled to play five games. One team, Gabriel Christian, cancelled however, forfeiting the game to DeKalb.
At the playday the Lady Tigers faced off with Monterey, and while the game stayed close, the girls came away with a victory.
DeKalb scored 20 points in the first period compared to Monterey’s 12. Winningham had two two-point shots, while Loren Cripps had a three-pointer. Morgan Pedigo had two three-point shots.
The Lady Tigers got nine points in the second quarter, with Rayanna Baker getting three two-pointers, and Pedigo getting a three-pointer. Monterey had eight points, and DeKalb’s lead increased, 29-20.
Monterey stayed within striking distance in the third quarter, scoring 15 points, but DeKalb fought back and scored 16. Jailyn Bolding and Pedigo each had a three-point shot, while Winningham came away with four two-pointers.
The Lady Tigers sealed the win in the fourth, getting 10 points to Monterey’s 11. Winningham, Baker, and Pedigo would each have a two-pointer in the quarter. DeKalb took the win, 55-46.
Winningham went seven for eight on free throws, while Cripps went three for six. Kenzie Poteete, Baker, and Pedigo each went one for three.
That same day the Lady Tigers played a team they had faced only days before. DeKalb took on the Boyd Christian Lady Broncos in a game that saw DCHS dominate.
The Lady Tigers took an impressive lead in the first quarter, and were in control the rest of the game, outscoring their opponent in every period. Winningham had three two-pointers in the quarter, while Poteete had two two-pointers and a three-point shot. Pedigo had a two-pointer and a three-pointer, with Cripps getting two two-point shots. DeKalb was up, 26-17.
In the second period the Lady Tigers out scored the Lady Broncos 22-11. Both Cripps and Winningham had four two-pointers in the game, with Bolding coming away with a three-pointer. DeKalb was on top of the Broncos, 48-28.
The Lady Tigers powered their way through the third period, scoring 20 points to the Broncos’ nine. Poteete had a three-pointer and a two-point shot, while Cripps and Bolding each had two two-pointers. Pedigo had a three-pointer and Baker had a two-point shot. DCHS had a 68-37 lead.
DeKalb topped off their score in the fourth, getting 18 points to Boyd Christian’s 14. Baker, Katie Hall, Dani Meadows, and Lexi Bates each had a two-point shot, while Hannah Panter made a three-pointer and a two-pointer. DeKalb took the win, 86-51.
Winningham went three for seven on free throws, while Cripps was four for four. Baker was two for six.
That same day the Lady Tigers faced off with Glenncliff and took a big win. DeKalb outscored Glenncliff 18-9 in the first period, with Cripps taking three three-pointers and one two-pointer, while Pedigo had one three-pointer.
The Lady Tigers’ lead was 40-17 at the end of the second, with DeKalb scoring 22 points to Glenncliff’s eight. Pedigo had two three-pointers and one two-point shot, while Bolding had a two-point and a three-point shot. Poteete also had a three-pointer, while Winningham had a two-point hoop.
At the end of three DeKalb commanded a 57-22 lead. Poteete had two two-pointers, while Ashley Barnes got a three-pointer. Cripps had a three-point and a two-point shot while Baker and Bolding each had a two-pointer.
DeKalb capped of the scoring in the fourth, getting a 71-26 win. Baker had two two-pointers and Cripps had one two-pointer.
Winningham went five for four on free throws, while Baker went two for three. Dani Meadows was two for two and Pedigo went one for two.
The Lady Tigers took on the Middle Tennessee Heat that same day, and got another lop-sided win.
DeKalb took the lead 28–2 in the first quarter. Winningham had five two-pointers, Cripps had a three-point shot and two two-pointers, and Baker and Bolding each had two two-pointers.
The Lady Tigers were up 48-4 at the end of the second period. Katie Hall and Hannah Panter each had three two-pointers, while Katie Parsley had a three-pointer and a two-pointer.
DeKalb piled it on in the third, taking a 54-8 lead. Panter and Bates each had a two-pointer in the quarter.
The team would cap their score in the fourth and secure the win, 55-11. The Lady Tigers scored only one point in the fourth off of free throws.
Winningham, Panter, Kayley Caplinger, Bates and Parsley were each one for two on free throws. Cripps was zero for one, and Kristen Parsley zero for two.
