Smith County went up two goals early and held on for a 2-1 win over the Lady Tigers after a scoreless second half.

DeKalb County ended up behind the eight ball early when Karlin Patterson of the state-ranked visitors hit the back of the net in the 14th minute thanks to an assist by Brennan Rigsby. The onslaught continued just two minutes later after Lady Tiger goalie Ariel Patterson slapped away a shot only for Patterson to find the rebound inside the box and send it home for a 2-0. Jaynada Wallace was credited with an assist. Patterson had five saves in the pipes on the night.

DeKalb picked up the pace in the latter portion of the first half, pushing deep into Smith County territory. The aggression led to Sarah Starnes getting a second bite at the apple after her initial shot rattled off the bar. She took the rebound and jetted it past the keeper to bring her team to within one. However, the second half proved to be a defensive stalemate with neither team getting a goal.

The win left Smith County a commanding 6-1 on the season and ranked fifth in the state. DeKalb dropped to 3-4-1 but remains a perfect 1-0 in the district. Their next district game was scheduled for last night when they were set to host Stone Memorial.
