It was a tough week for the DCHS Lady Tigers. As the team resumed play from the Christmas break, they faced off with two powerhouse teams.

 

On Jan. 6, the Lady Tigers were at home where they faced off with the Lady Owls of Smith County. The Lady Tigers would get off to a sluggish start, but would come on strong late in the game.

 

The Lady Tigers scored six points in the first period, with a two and three-pointer by Loren Cripps, and a free throw shot by Ashli Chew. Smith took a massive lead, scoring 22 points.

 

DeKalb added nine points in the second period, with Morgan Pedigo getting a three-point basket, while Chew, Maggie Knowles, and Hannah Panter each got a two-pointer. The Lady Owls scored 14 points, taking a 36-15 lead at the half.

 

Chew scored three two-point shots in the third period, while Pedigo got a three-pointer, and Cripps got a two-point shot. DeKalb scored 12, but Smith came away with 21, increasing their lead, 57-27.

 

The Lady Tigers came out on fire in the fourth period, scoring 28 points. Jailyn Bolding scored three three-point shots, while Chew had a pair of two-point baskets and two free throw points. Cripps had a three-pointer, while Knowles had a two-pointer and a free throw point. Panter had a pair of two-point shots. Smith only scored five, but that was enough for the 62-56 victory.

 

Chew was five for six on free throws, while Knowles was one for four.

 

On Jan. 9, the Lady Tigers were on the road in Murfreesboro to take on Central Magnet. It would be a hard game for DeKalb.

 

The Lady Tigers took the lead in the first period, scoring nine points to Central Magnet’s eight. Loren Cripps had a pair of three-point baskets, while Morgan Pedigo had one.

 

Central Magnet rolled over DeKalb in the second period, scoring 20 points while holding the Lady Tigers to only three. Pedigo scored a two-point shot, while Cripps came away with a free throw point. CM took the 28-12 halftime lead.

 

DeKalb took 14 points in the third period, with Pedigo scoring a pair of three-point baskets, while Ashli Chew had a two-pointer and four points from free throws. Maggie Knowles also had a two-pointer. Central Magnet scored 19 points, increasing their lead, 47-26.

 

The Lady Tigers could only muster nine points in the fourth period, with Knowles getting a pair of two-point baskets, Cripps a three-pointer, and Chew a two-pointer. CM added 10 more points and sealed their win, 57-35.

 

Chew was four for six on free throws, while Cripps was one for four. Abby Evans was zero for two.
