Lady Tigers fall at home, win on road

The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers basketball team had a tough schedule last week, taking on some tough teams. The girls played three games as their season begins to wind down.

 

On Feb. 3, the Lady Tigers were on their home court where they took on a team from Central Magnet of Murfreesboro. It would be a tough night for Lady Tiger fans.

 

DeKalb only scored four points in the first period, with two-point shots by Ashli Chew and Maggie Knowles. CM jumped out to a big lead, scoring 13 points.

 

The Lady Tigers did a little better in the second period, scoring six points with a three-point basket by Loren Cripps, and a two-pointer and a free throw by Chew. Central dug a deeper hole for DeKalb, scoring 15 more points, and taking a 28-10 halftime lead.

 

Knowles had three two-pointers in the third period, while Chew had a two-pointer and a free throw. Morgan Pedigo had a three-point shot. DeKalb scored 12, but Central Magnet matched the score, and kept a hefty lead, 40-22.

 

The Lady Tigers only scored six points in the fourth period. Pedigo had a three-point basket, while Hannah Panter had a two-pointer and a free throw point. CM added 14 complimentary points, taking the 54-28 win.

 

Chew was two for four on free throws, while Panter was one for two. Knowles was zero for two.

 

On Feb. 5, the Lady Tigers were again at home, this time facing off with the Lionettes of Cannon County. It would be another tough game.

 

DeKalb scored eight points in the first period, with Cripps taking a two and three-pointer, while Chew had a two-pointer and a free throw. Cannon doubled DeKalb’s score with 16 points.

 

The Lady Tigers came away with 12 points in the second period, with Knowles getting a three-pointer and a couple of two-pointers, while Pedigo got a three-point basket of her own. Chew added two free throw points. The Lionettes pushed their lead even further with 14 points, and a halftime score of 30-20.

 

The Lady Tigers outscored Cannon in the third period, getting eight points to the Lionettes’ six. Chew had a pair of two-point baskets, while Knowles had one. Cripps had two free-throw points. Cannon County held the lead, 36-28.

 

DeKalb scored 14 points in the fourth period, with Chew getting two two-point baskets, a three-pointer, and a free throw, while Pedigo had a three-point shot. Bolding had a two-pointer, while Knowles had a free throw point. Cannon sealed their win with 16 points, and a final score of 52-42.

 

Chew was four for five on free throws, while Cripps was two for four. Knowles was one for two.

 

On Feb. 7, the Lady Tigers were on the road in Gordonsville, facing the Tigerettes. This time the girls would come out on top.

 

DeKalb scored eight points in the first period, all from Chew. She had three two-point baskets and a pair of free throw points. Gordonsville came away with six points.

 

The Lady Tigers had 13 points in the second period, with Cripps getting a couple of two-point baskets and two free throw points, while Chew had a three and two-pointer. Knowles also had a two-point shot. The Tigerettes had 11 points, giving DeKalb a 21-17 lead at the half.

 

DeKalb opened up in the third period, with 19 points on the board. Jailyn Bolding had a three-pointer and a free throw, while Cripps, Pedigo, and Panter each had a three-point shot. Chew had a two and three-pointer, while Knowles added a free throw point. The Tigerettes scored 12 points, giving DeKalb a 40-29 lead.

 

The Lady Tigers sealed their win with 14 points in the fourth period. Cripps had a two-pointer and a couple of free throws, while Knowles had a two-pointer and three free throws. Pedigo had a three-pointer, while Panter had a two-pointer. Gordonsville had nine points, giving DeKalb the 54-38 victory.

 

Cripps was four for four, while Chew was two for two. Bolding was one for four, while Knowles was four for seven. Panter was zero for one.
