The DeKalb Lady Tigers had a much better week last week after getting a win in one game, and a tie in another.
On Sept. 10, the team traveled to Cannon County where they took on the Lionettes. The day game was played in hot and sticky conditions, and the halves were stopped midway for five-minute breaks.
Right from the beginning it looked as if DeKalb might have a tough day, after Cannon came away with a goal only 30 seconds into the game.
As it would turn out, the game would belong to the Lady Tigers’ Angeles Soto, after she got the team’s first goal with 10 minutes left in the half. Only 1:30 seconds after her first goal, Soto would strike again, giving the Lady Tigers the lead, 2-1.
Soto was not finished. She would get another goal with 6:15 left in the half, and yet again with 4:29 left on the clock. There, the Lady Tigers would end the half, 4-1.
In the second half, Cannon would try to mount a comeback, scoring two more goals. Lady Tigers’ Goalie Jessica Billings would have 11 saves in the game, and DeKalb would hold on and take the win, 4-3.
On the following Thursday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Cumberland County, where though they didn’t get a win, they also didn’t get a loss.
Billings would have 11 saves in the game, but neither team would come away with a goal. The game ended in a tie.
