Lady Tigers lose at home, win on road

The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers basketball team’s schedule didn’t get any easier last week, with games against Macon County, then Smith County. The girls would come away disappointed in one game, while getting a big victory in another.

 

On Jan. 27, the Lady Tigers were at home where they faced off with Macon County. The game would stay close, but eventually fall out of the Lady Tigers’ reach.

 

DeKalb scored 11 points in the first period, with Jailyn Bolding getting a couple of two-point baskets and a free throw, while Ashli Chew got one two-point shot and a free throw. Loren Cripps had a three-point basket. Macon took the early lead with 13 points.

 

The Lady Tigers came away with eight points in the second period, with Cripps getting a three-pointer, Chew a two-pointer and a free throw, and Hannah Panter a two-point shot. Macon repeated with 13 more points, taking a 26-19 lead at halftime.

 

Cripps got a two and three-point basket in the third period, while Maggie Knowles added a two-point shot. Macon continued to pull away with nine points, and a 35-26 lead.

 

The Lady Tigers came away with 17 points in the fourth period. Chew and Knowles each had three two-point shots, while Bolding and Panter each got one. Cripps had a point off of a free throw. Macon matched DeKalb’s points getting 17 of their own. Macon took the 52-43 win.

 

Chew was two for 11 on free throws, while Cripps and Bolding were each one for two. Knowles was zero for one.

 

On Jan. 31, the Lady Tigers traveled to Smith County where they took on the Lady Owls. This game would have a better outcome for the team.

 

The Lady Tigers opened up the game with 17 points in the first period. Morgan Pedigo had a pair of three-pointers, while Bolding had one. Knowles had a pair of two-point baskets, while Cripps and Chew each had one. Defensively, the Lady Owls were held to only seven points.

 

DeKalb didn’t let up in the second period, with 17 more points added to the scoreboard. Pedigo had another couple of free throws, while Cripps had a two-pointer and a three-pointer. Bolding had a two-point basket, while Knowles had a two-pointer and a free throw. Smith County was held to 13 points, giving the Lady Tigers a 34-20 halftime lead.

 

Smith County rebounded in the third period, scoring another 13 points, while holding DeKalb to only four. Chew was the only scorer for the Lady Tigers, getting a pair of two-pointers. Smith inched closer, but DeKalb held the lead, 38-33.

 

Cripps sank six free throws in the fourth period, while Bolding got three free throws and a two-pointer. Chew added a couple of two-point shots, while Pedigo got a three-pointer. DeKalb scored 18 points, while holding Smith County to 15. The Lady Tigers took the 56-58 victory.

 

Cripps was six for six on free throws, while Bolding was three for four. Knowles was two for two, while Chew was zero for two.
