Macon County made sure the glass slipper did not fit as the ended the Cinderella story for the Lady Tigers – at least for the time being.
The highly ranked Tigerettes from Macon
County left no doubt who ran the region as they crushed DeKalb 51-27, making
it a triple sweep of the Lady Tigers, all by wide margins. Their loss in the
region finals comes after heart-stopping, one-point wins over tournament host
Cumberland County and defending state champion Upperman in consecutive games.
Macon County did not allow the Lady Tigers to even sniff a chance at winning as they held DeKalb scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game, going up 8-0 before the Lady Tigers made a bucket. The Tigerette press was in fine form all evening as they challenged every dribble, making even the patient DeKalb girls take tough shots.
Leading the Lady Tigers in scoring were Lydia Brown and Kadee Ferrell, both with five. Lydia Brown, Emme Colwell, and Kadee Ferrell were named to the 1st Team-All Region in ceremonies after the game.
Since DeKalb made the region finals, they will automatically move on to the sectional. They will face McMinn Central who knocked off highly rated Meigs County in overtime. The 22-11 Lady Tigers will meet at 20-13 Chargers at the McMinn Central gym at 6 p.m. Central Time this Saturday.
