The DeKalb County Lady Tigers Soccer Team only played one game last week, taking on Smith County as their season winds down. While the girls played hard, the team would come away with a loss to the more experienced Owls.
The game was hard-fought throughout the first half of play, with DeKalb playing mostly defense on their side of the field. Smith County’s Callie Hackett would get the game’s first goal, coming late in the first half with ten minutes left on the clock. Hackett would score again only four minutes later, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Tigers would find the net with only five minutes left in the half, after Hailey Summers got DeKalb’s one and only score for the game. The half would end with Smith County leading 2-1.
While the Lady Tigers kept things close during the first half, the second half would see things quickly get out of control. Owls’ Savannah Culbreath would get a goal only three minutes into play, and again seven minutes later.
Smith County’s Abby Smith would find the net with 26 minutes left to play, and again two minutes later. The Owls’ Barbara Nigro would get the team’s final goal, with 18 minutes left on the clock.
The Owls would come away with the win, 7-1.
The Lady Tigers played their final home game on Tuesday, and will play their final game of the season on Thursday when they travel to Lebanon Home School.
