The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers Soccer Team had a good week last week, getting two wins, one on the road and another at home.
On Sept. 16, DeKalb traveled to Jackson County, where they took a huge victory with a big score.
The Lady Tigers started off strong and within the first two minutes of play, Angeles Soto put in a powerful shot to the corner post. Only 10 minutes later, Soto scored again, with an assist by Haleigh Bass.
Bass had a score of her own 32 minutes into the game, assisted by Savannah Driver, and before the first half was over Soto would complete a hat trick, giving the Lady Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Starting the second half, DeKalb’s Goalkeeper, Jessica Billings, came out of the goal to play on the field as a forward. This gave her the opportunity to complete a goal two minutes into the half.
DeKalb defender, Savannah Driver, played as a forward giving her a great position to complete a goal two minutes later. Just four minutes after that, Nichole Walker took the ball down the field to complete another goal for the Lady Tigers, assisted by Jackie Overbey. The Lady Tigers were up, 7-0.
Fifty-five minutes into the game, Driver completed her second goal of the night, assisted by Bass. Then, Brooke Roller crashed the goal 14 minutes later, with an assist by Driver.
As the game came to its last few minutes, Driver completed her hat trick, assisted by Lydia Trail, and giving DeKalb a 10-0 lead.
Running out of time, Jackie Overbey came in to score, assisted by Soto. This would end the night with the Lady Tigers getting a 11-0 win over Jackson County.
On Sept. 18 the Lady Tigers were at home, this time facing off with border rival Cannon County.
The Lady Tigers started the night off with Haleigh Bass carrying the ball down the middle of the field to score the first goal of the night, two minutes into play.
Cannon County’s Molly Williams would come back 16 minutes later and complete a goal with the assist by Hannah Taylor. This would tie the score to 1-1.
DeKalb came back strong, and 21 minutes into the game Soto banked a shot off of a Cannon County defensive player to score another goal with the assist by Taylor Spare. The score was 2-1 at half time.
Starting the second half, Soto once again completed goal just four minutes into the half.
Cannon County would not give up however, and 58 minutes into the game Taylor scored for their team. The Lady Tigers would not allow another goal from Cannon County.
Kamien Sparks penetrated Cannon’s defense to complete a goal, with Soto assisting the play. The Lady Tigers power player Katie Hall then pushed through to score the final goal of the night. The Lady Tigers continued to flex their goal scoring muscles finishing with a 5-2 victory, and wrapping up a very successful night.
