Lady Tigers take two, drops one

The DCHS Lady Tigers participated in the annual Hall of Fame Playday last weekend, winning two of the three games they played.

The Lady Tigers also met Red Boiling Springs in the DCHS gym at 10 a.m. Saturday, taking a 49-42 win.

DeKalb slipped out to an 11-9 lead after the first period, and increased it with a 21-17 second quarter to ensure a half time lead of 32-26 for DCHS.

The Lady tigers exploded in the third period, scoring 13 points while allowing Grundy only two, and taking a 45-28 lead. The Lady Tigers gave up 14 points in the fourth and only managed four, but the damage was done, and the Lady tigers took the victory.

Morgan Pedigo scored 18 points for DeKalb, while Macy Hedge put in nine, Jailyn Bolding hit the basket for seven, and Maddison Parsley and Ashli Chew both scored six. Joni Robinson added three points to the Tiger effort.

The ladies then met the Chattanooga Patriots at 12:30.

DeKalb came out on top again, this time 51-30. The Lady Tigers led the first period 21-10, the second 9-1, and the third 8-6. Both teams scored 13 points in the final period.

Chew and Pedigo led the DeKalb scoring effort with 12 points each, while Hannah Panter scored eight, Joni Robinson and Lydia Brown put in seven points each. Abbi Taylor and Addison Oakley scored two each, and Bolding added one.

The Lady Tigers faced the Watertown Lady Purple Tigers in their final game of the day, taking a 70-67 loss.

Watertown took the lead early, outpacing DeKalb 20-13 in the first period and 14-12 in the second. Coming back in after half time with a 34-25 lead over the Lady Tigers, the Purple Ladies led the third period 20-18. A 24-16 fourth period in DeKalb’s favor came too late, and Watertown took the win.

Chew led the DeKalb offense with 31 points in the game, while Pedigo added 16, Panter 11, Robinson four, and Hedge two.

The Lady Tigers began regular season play last night at home against Boyd Christian, and will travel to York Institute Friday to take on the Dragons.
