Lady Tigers throw Gordonsville a beating

The DCHS Lady Tigers steamrolled Gordonsville High School in a convincing 51-20 win on Senior Night in Smithville Saturday night.

 

DeKalb County blasted into the lead in a 17-5 first period, and continued to pull away in the first half of the contest. After outpacing the team from Smith County 17-2 in the second, The Lady Tigers enjoyed a 34-7 advantage at the half.

 

DeKalb put 12 more points on the board in the third period, holding Gordonsville to two. DeKalb held a 46-9 lead at the beginning of the fourth. While GHS managed 11 points in the fourth, and held DeKalb to five, they only succeeded in bringing their tally to within 31 points of the Lady Tigers at the final buzzer.

 

Morgan Pedigo led the DeKalb offense with 16 points. Pedigo hit four three-point shots and went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.

 

Ashli Chew put in 11 points for DCHS, Jailyn Bolding scored nine in the game, and Lydia Brown placed four. Hannah Panter hit a three-pointer, and Joni Robinson, Macy Hedge, Abby Evans, and Abbi Taylor scored two points each.

 

Meanwhile, The Lady Tigers dropped a district game to Smith County in a 42-35 loss on Feb. 5.

 

The Lady Owls held tight to a 15-14 lead after the first period, but DeKalb County outscored Smith 12-9 in the second, and took a 26-24 lead before halftime.

 

The Lady Tigers added four points in the third while allowing the Lady Owls only two, putting them in the lead at 30-26 for the beginning of the fourth period. The final quarter of the game was not kind to the Lady Tigers, however, and while DeKalb put five points on the books, Smith erupted with a 16-point period, and shot past DeKalb to clinch a 42-35 win.

 

Ashli Chew led the DeKalb scoring effort with 15 points. Jailyn Bolding was close behind with 14, and Morgan Pedigo and Joni Robinson put in three points each for the Lady Tigers.

 

The ladies from DeKalb fared better on the road against Macon County Tuesday on Feb. 2, taking a 55-43 win.

 

Macon outscored the Lady Tigers in the first half, leading 12-9 after the first, and increasing their lead to 27-23 at the half. DeKalb was not dead, though, and bounced back to score 19 points in the third, allowing MHS only 10. DeKalb led 42-37 at the end of the third period.

 

DeKalb cut loose again in the fourth, scoring 13 points while Macon managed only five. The Lady Tiger effort was enough to put them ahead 55-43 at the final buzzer.

 

Ashli Chew dominated the court with 25 points on the night. Chew dropped in eight two-pointers and went 9-for-12 from the line.

 

Hannah Panter rang in with 11 points, sinking three three-pointers in the process. Jailyn Bolding scored 10, going 5-for-6, Joni Robinson put in five points, and Morgan Pedigo and Macy Hedge placed two points each.

 

On the downside, the Upperman Lady Bees routed DeKalb at the DCHS gym in a 77-40 game on Feb. 1.

 

The lady Bees led the 22-14 at the end of the first period, increased their lead to 40-24 at halftime, and 60-30 after the third period.

 

In spite of the loss, Chew scored 23 points to top the Lady Tiger offense, and surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark during the game. She hit three three-point shots and went 4-for-6 in the game.

 

Morgan Pedigo and Joni Robinson put in six points each, and Macy Hedge scored five points for DeKalb.

 

DeKalb County traveled to Central Magnet in Murfreesboro Tuesday night, and the regular season will wrap up at Cannon County Tomorrow night, Feb. 11. Tip off for the Lady Tigers is at 6 p.m. More on these games in next week’s Review.
